Netflix’s hit Portuguese show Turn of the Tide (Rabo de Peixe) first landed on our screens two years ago in May 2023, and the wait for season 2 has been incredibly long. The wait is finally coming to an end, however, as Netflix has quietly confirmed that the second season will return to our screens in October 2025.

The date announcement came courtesy of a billboard, posted by numerous actors on the series, that states “Muita Branca Pode Tornar Tudo Negro,” which translates to “Too much white can turn everything black,” a figurative expression, suggesting that an excess of something pure or good can lead to a negative outcome. It then switches to a slide confirming the release date for season 2: October 17th, 2025.

A recent article and interview in SAPO Mag confirm that Season 2 picks up three months after the events of Season 1. The outlet also attended Next on Netflix Spain earlier this year. They spoke to José Condessa, who said the pressure was high to deliver on a second season, but says they’ve received great feedback, saying, “Everyone tells us it’s better than the first. After a season that was already so good, you feel a huge responsibility on your shoulders.”

Following the massive success of the first season, the pressure to deliver has been high, but feedback from Netflix has been overwhelmingly positive. “Everyone tells us it’s better than the first,” Condessa said. “After a season that was already so good, you feel a huge responsibility on your shoulders.”

The upcoming story picks up three months after Eduardo’s departure, with his return to a very different Rabo de Peixe. “The drugs he hid are no longer in Uncle Joe’s hands, but controlled by an unexpected enemy, triggering a series of events that will test the group’s friendship and loyalty,” Netflix teased. Condessa explained that seasons two and three were filmed almost simultaneously, which was both challenging and rewarding. He added, “The series has grown emotionally… When there’s silence, there’s silence; when there’s crying, there’s crying. That’s what’s resonating with so many people.”

Condessa also highlighted Netflix’s growing commitment to Portugal, noting, “There was a time we were unsure about Netflix’s future in Portugal, but now it’s clear they’re just getting started. It’s great for actors because we don’t need to emigrate anymore.”

Don’t forget that Netflix has also already renewed the Portuguese series for a third season, which has wrapped filming already, with both seasons 2 and 3 being filmed back to back. No word on the release date for that particular season, but given it’s already in the can, we expect it to be within a year of the release of season 2, with a 2026 release most likely. A day after the third season was confirmed, Augusto Fraga, the showrunner and director of the series, posted clapperboards from all three seasons.

In a statement, Fraga said ahead of the release of season 2 (translated to English):

“This is a story about friendship in the midst of a storm. We took everything a little further this season—visually, emotionally, and narratively—but we remained true to what makes people connect with Eduardo and his incredible group of friends. It’s wilder, more personal, and perhaps rawer. Because, in the end, when the tide turns, the only thing that matters is who you hold on to.”

Season 2 also introduces multiple new supporting characters, including those played by actors José RaposoCaio Blat, and Ricardo Pereira, in addition to Brazilian star Paolla Oliveira, who “enters the story with a powerful and surprising character.”
