Tyler Perry is expanding his massive Netflix slate with a brand-new thriller. Titled Tyler Perry’s Confabulation, the upcoming movie is set to star Lucien Laviscount and Taylour Paige. Here is everything we know so far about the new movie.
The new feature falls under Perry’s ongoing creative partnership with Netflix, which sees the prolific filmmaker write, direct, and produce exclusive films and series for the streamer. The announcement comes hot on the heels of his recent massive hit, Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again, which just reached the #1 spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 English Movies list this month.
Confabulation is written and directed by Tyler Perry, who also serves as a producer alongside Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland. The film is a production of Tyler Perry Studios.

What is the plot of Confabulation?
Billed as a thriller with drama and romance elements, the movie promises a gripping mystery that will leave audiences questioning reality.

Through a twist of fate, a heroic firefighter is reunited with his first love, Bridgette, during a daring rescue mission and takes it upon himself to save her from her circumstances and maybe give them both a chance at the life they once dreamed of. Haunted by his past and struggling with reality, he risks everything to rescue her from her powerful husband, only for the truth to unravel in a shocking twist that questions what is real and what is confabulation.
On Instagram talking about the new project, Perry said, “WHEN I TELL YOU!! THIS ONE RIGHT HERE!! Yall ain’t ready!! I’m in my bag!!!”
Who is cast in Confabulation?
Netflix has lined up a stellar, star-studded cast to lead the new thriller, with Deadline first with the news:
- Lucien Laviscount will star in a lead role. Laviscount is no stranger to Netflix subscribers, being best known as Alfie in the mega-hit series Emily in Paris (which returns for its sixth and final season this Christmas Eve). He also recently starred in the #1 Netflix rom-com People We Meet on Vacation.
- Taylour Paige will also topline the film. Paige is a familiar face on Netflix, having previously starred opposite Chadwick Boseman in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and alongside Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
- Shamier Anderson (John Wick: Chapter 4, Stowaway) will also feature in a key role.

What is the production status of Confabulation?
As is standard for Tyler Perry productions, the shoot is incredibly fast-paced.
According to production listings, filming on Confabulation officially began on September 21, 2026 and is scheduled to wrap very quickly on October 6, 2026.
Filming is taking place primarily at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, with additional locations shot in Seattle, Washington.
When will Confabulation be released on Netflix?
Netflix has not yet set a release date for Tyler Perry’s Confabulation. Given the lightning-fast production schedule wrapping in October 2026, it’s highly likely the film will land on the streamer sometime in 2027.
This is one of two movies Tyler Perry Studios is preparing for Netflix, with the other titled Emulous. Plot details are under wraps for now, but we do know production starts October 19th, which overlaps with when Beauty in Black season 4 begins filming, so Perry may be only a producer on this project, similar to Doing Life and Ruth & Boaz.
