I’ll be back are words that we should have taken seriously when they were uttered by the T-800 in Terminator (1984). 35 years later, and the sixth installment of the franchise has arrived in theatres around the world. Inevitably, Dark Fate will be available to stream online, but will it be coming to Netflix? Let’s find out.
Terminator: Dark Fate is a sci-fi action film and the sixth installment of the Terminator Franchise. James Cameron, director of the first Terminator, returned to the franchise to help produce the film. Tim Miller (Deadpool) directed the film, while David S. Goyer co-wrote the screenplay with Justin Rhodes and Billy Ray. Terminator: Dark Fate sees the return of Linda Hamilton, 28 years on from Judgement Day.
Decades after Sarah Connor prevented Judgement Day, the Earth has experienced relative peace. A young woman, Grace, along with a new and advanced Terminator model, Rev-9, are sent back in time to 2020, Mexico City. Grace has been sent back in time to protect Dani Ramos and her family, while the Rev-9 attempts to kill them. Dani’s survival rests in the hands of Grace and a battle-hardened Sarah Connor. Their best hope of survival may rest in the hands of a T-800 from Sarah’s past.
Will Terminator: Dark Fate be coming to Netflix?
Based on previous releases, it’s unlikely the sixth Terminator film will be coming to Netflix US.
Netflix and Paramount have worked extremely close in the past couple of years, the latter having worked with the streaming service to produce Originals such as Maniac and 13 Reasons Why. But outside of the Originals, fewer and fewer titles have made their way to Netflix.
CEO of Paramount Pictures, Jim Gianopulos, made comments about the “streaming wars” and the future of the brand:
Our content is more desirable, more unique and more available than others, and that puts us in a really good position.
Going by those comments, it would indicate Paramount will sell the license to their films to the highest bidder.
Along with the merger of Viacom and CBS, some Paramount titles could end up on the CBS streaming service.
Will Terminator: Dark Fate be available in other regions on Netflix?
The only region receiving Paramount titles on a regular basis is Netflix Canada. We have no evidence to suggest this arrangement is changing in the future, therefore, Netflix Canada can look forward to Terminator: Dark Fate arriving in 2020.
In the United Kingdom, Terminator: Dark Fate will be available to stream on Sky and Now TV.
Australia doesn’t receive the latest Paramount titles, so you will have to look to other streaming services to find Terminator: Dark Fate.
