Soon the bodies start dropping as a killer is set loose on the teens.
Most would say that this the role that brought the attention of Hollywood to Amber Heard as she soon went on to appear in more prominent roles. While the movie doesn’t exactly fit into the top 10 list for slashers of all time it should definitely be on your watch list this Halloween.

Remembered more for its twists than that of a slasher movie there’s probably a very good reason why April Fools Day is not spoken in the same breath as Friday the 13th or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. While the film isn’t a classic it is a throwback to 80’s horror cheese.

The show’s strength lies in the relationship and chemistry between Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore who play both Norma and Norman Bates respectively. The creepiness of that relationship they permeate is phenomenal and hands down this show deserve a binge of all 5 seasons.

Described as “A mediocre attempt to freshen up the slasher horror genre” this movie will either be at the top of your watchlist to get it out of the way or if you’re into dysfunctional B-list slashers then this film is probably for you. Hit or miss you won’t be missing out on much if you skip this one.
Clown (2014)

After falling asleep with the costume on can’t take off the costume and soon undergoes a terrifying transformation that turns him into an evil killer clown.
If you hate Clowns don’t watch this movie. While the role isn’t as iconic as Pennywise the Clown or Eli Roth’s ‘Frowny the Clown’ it is terrifying in its own way. The film does a great job of being sympathetic towards the monster… that is until the body count starts to rise. Definitely, don’t overlook this one!
Cult of Chucky (2017)

Thanks to the therapy she has received she now believes she was the one that killed her family and Chucky was a product of her imagination. Her doctor brings in a good boy doll to her group sessions to help with her treatment, not knowing he has put them all in danger.
The film is the 7th and currently the last of series before the reboot. With the release of the last film saw a lot of the main cast members of the previous films return for their final confrontation of Chucky.

With the conflict between the 2 growing will it end in a climactic showdown between 2 of the greatest horror villains in history.
While the film isn’t considered ‘canon’, fans of both franchises clamoured to see 2 of the most iconic characters in horror history face off against one another. With a budget of $25 million, it almost made 5 times the amount at the box office and pulled in $114.9 million worldwide. While a direct movie sequel hasn’t been produced, a 15 minute short was released back in 2011 with the 2 villains facing off against each other and Ash from the ‘Evil Dead’ franchise.

Out of the numerous Friday the 13th movies out there this one can easily be skipped. It doesn’t add much to the saga of Jason and Tommy beside Tommy’s struggle to integrate himself back into society. You aren’t missing out if you skip and by general consensus is everyone’s least favourite F13 movie anyway.

Taking a twisted look on the modern phenomenon that is social media, the idea behind ‘Friend Request’ is intriguing but the execution has been considered to be poor. While the movie performed poorly it’s still worth a watch.

When a member of the Elite ten fails to show, the other members become worried. It’s not long before more members are murdered in gruesome and vicious ways.
The Canadian slasher isn’t as prestigious as what other slashers have been over the years and while some may consider it a ripping off the hype that Friday the 13th brought to the slasher horrors the movie does stand out in out’s own right. Just be mindful of eating any Kebabs after watching this. *Shudders*

College students Paxton and Josh go to Europe to travel with their Icelandic friend Oli. After being locked out of their Hostel in Amsterdam one of the locals suggests they travel to Slovakia to seek out a hostel rumoured to be filled with beautiful women. After travelling to the Hostel in Slovakia all is not what it seems as they are drawn into a deadly game and soon find themselves fighting for their survival.
The early and mid-2000’s saw the emergence in popularity of the ‘torture porn’ genre and while Hostel does count as a Slasher it also fits into that torture category. If you’re looking for guts and gore and lots of it then look no further as they have it by the bucket load in this film. For any of you out there that faint of heart and squeamish then turn away from this movie immediately!
There was some backlash to the release of this movie as both Slovakia and the Czech Republic saw this movie as a misrepresentation of their respective countries. Less about the violence and more how the countries are perceived to be dangerous, rampant with criminals and prostitution and also underdeveloped.

The violence in Part 2 of Eli Roth’s Torture/Slasher franchise is off the charts. So much so the movie upon release was banned in several countries for its excessive violence and graphic scenes. Part 2 did not make as much money as its predecessor but this would be down to a copy of the film leaked online and became the most pirated movie of 2007. Eli Roth saw the drop in money at the box office as a result of the movie being pirated.

Hush is quite the refreshing take on the home invasion genre and has been well received by critics. While it was never released at the box office the movie has become a favorite among many Netflix subscribers. The movie had been considered to be completely without audio at first but there was a limit to the amount of tension that could be generated. Without audio, there was a risk that the intended target audience would not like the movie.

The 90’s was filled with slasher horror movies and soon replaced the popularity of the flesh-eating zombies that dominated the horror scene the decade before. ‘I know what you did last Summer’ did fantastic at the box office as it made over $125 million dollars and considering the film was made for just $17 Million, it was a massive achievement. The film is paramount to anyone’s Slasher horror watchlist and should be in the top 10 of your what to watch.
Jeepers Creepers 3 (2017) – Netflix UK

Taking place just after the events of Jeepers Creepers 1, a task force is put together by the local Sheriff to take down the Creeper down for good.
As the film is a pre-sequel it still leaves the door open to a 4th film in the franchise that can be available to be made, but after the reception, Jeepers Creepers 3 has received too much of a good thing is… well too much. While the franchise itself is popular amongst horror film fans you’d be better off going back and watching 1 & 2 rather than watching this 1.5 copy. If a 4th is produced then we can hope for a far better sequel than what we got for number 3.

The first director of the movie had originally wanted Emma Watson to play the lead role but soon after Olly Blackburn had been given the directors seat instead and 2 more producers came on to help with the production of the film. The film went on to have several rebrandings of the title such as ‘Satanic’, and ‘Random’. The film first premiered in Europe back in 2014 but for its subsequent release in the United States, the film was re-edited. The movie was never released at the box office and soon after airing on Lifetime in the US less than a month later the film was released on Netflix.

If you have a morbid interest in the origin of a horror movie killer then yeah it’s a worth a watch but realistically ‘Leatherface’ is the origin story no one wanted. That speaks volumes as many people don’t even realize this film exists not to mention its abysmal run in the box office which made less than a $1 Million dollars.

10 years after they left high school the former classmates reunite at a pre-party before they attend their 10-year high school reunion. Soon, the former classmates are brutally murdered in the way which their yearbook superlative described what they would ‘most likely’ do.
The film doesn’t stand out amongst the crowd of the many slasher films out there as it doesn’t go against the grain to try something new. More of a homage to 90’s era high school slasher movie if the film had been more ambitious in its approach than paying homage then this may have warranted more attention. Hit or Miss. Take or leave it if you want a slasher fest then add it to your watch list.

The irony of a dark comedy when there isn’t much comedy to be had is quite sad and that’s why this is the sort of movie you’d watch for a ‘Bad Movie Night’.

In the town of Lakewood, a recent murder of high school students brings back awful memories for residents of the town that had to deal with the brutal murder spree that was carried out years ago. As the body count rises people begin to question if the murderer has returned or is this a copycat killer intent on bringing chaos to the town.
This is very much a show you would consider a guilty pleasure to watch and is actually very enjoyable. For a premise where a traditional TV series usually wouldn’t work has been flipped right on its head, the series must definitely go on your what to watch list. The series is still currently waiting for the release of a 3rd season but for now, there is more than enough for you to binge on.

Any Scream film should be in your list of what to watch even if that means you can only watch the 4th film! The slasher genre had somewhat lost its popularity before Wes Craven came along and breathed life back into it. Focusing not just on the horror aspect of a slasher movie the scream franchise has also been massively praised for its use of humour in such a dark setting.

The film follows the troupes of many horrors that have come before it, similar to that of the hills have eyes and devils rejects where a group of people gets brutalized by a crazy family. Once you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all besides that there isn’t much left to say about the Spanish slasher.

After her parents were murdered 30 years ago by ‘The Executioner’ Sarah Bennett’s return to the town of Waterbury hasn’t been a happy one. Having moved back to the town with her husband Dylan, Sarah finds herself at the center of another series of murders that revolve around the ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ which had been the work of ‘The Executioner’. With the original killer already in jail, someone in the community has taken it upon themselves to become a copycat of the killer. With the body count rising everyone around Sarah is now a victim or a suspect.
For a while, things were looking bleak for The Canadian horror before being picked up by Netflix and with Netflix producing season 3 of the slasher series, it suffice to say that Netflix has a lot of confidence in the show and expect to do well once the release of the series goes international. With 2 seasons of the show available to stream, there’s enough to keep you busy over Halloween.

When a child’s party goes disastrously wrong and results in the death of the clown entertainer, 6 years later ‘Stitches’ the clown returns to enact his revenge on those responsible for his death.
While the film definitely can’t be merited with being the Shaun of the Dead of the clown horror/comedy world the movie does has its own merits. Laughably grotesque with how Stitches kills his victims with tricks and clown whimsy may leave some dumbfounded while others will be laughing.

It’s hard for any Slasher/Home Invasion film to come up with its own troupes and while it doesn’t do anything out of the ordinary it isn’t exactly the worst one on this list of Slasher films. It does what it says on the tin with this one, so don’t expect anything special but make sure to add it to your watchlist this Halloween.

Easily one of the most enjoyable Slasher movies that have come out for a long time. With its comedic timing and entertaining parody like feel on slasher films, the Babysitter definitely should be sitting pretty near the top of your watch list.

‘Cabin in the Woods’ isn’t a parody in the traditional sense but it definitely shines a light on classic horror troupes and pokes fun at it. Written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard the film is definitely one the most refreshing movies on the Genre for a very long time.

The sequel to ‘The Collector’ see’s a face from the Collectors past leading a team of armed mercenaries to take him down in his booby-trapped hotel.
It goes to show a bigger budget doesn’t always mean a bigger return. While the original movie made triple the amount to it’s budget of $3 Million, ‘The Collection’ had $7 Million more to play with and unfortunately brought in a lot less to its predecessor. But the figures don’t always do a film justice and if you’ve watched the first movie what’s stopping you from watching the sequel? With more guts and gore and plenty of torture to boot, add ‘The Collection’ to your current collection on your watch list.

Ex-convict Arkin is working as a handyman for the Chase household but knowing his wife’s debts to loan sharks needs to be paid before midnight he decides to try and steal a valuable Ruby in the Chases’ possession. After arriving at the house and having a violent confrontation with Michael Chase all is not what it seems and a deadly game of survival for Arkin and the Chase’s begins.
This film has definitely split fans down the middle and it may have to be taken with a pinch of salt that those that enjoyed it loved it and those that disliked it really hated it. If you’re a fan of the hardcore horrors then definitely add this to your watchlist and with the sequel also appearing on this list make sure to give that a watch too!

If you love a Grindhouse horror and B-movie horrors then you’ll love the combination of the two in this Slasher gore fest. Let your inner psycho loose and make sure to add this cheesy as hell and savagely fun film to your watch list.

For a film produced by Wes Craven, it’s a massive shame that the Slasher/Thriller hasn’t surmounted to much. While the initial idea is intriguing it lacks delivery on its premise.

The response for the reboot of the film was definitely not well received, in the era where a lot of classic horror villains were getting rebooted while still serving fans with plenty of guts and gore miss the point of what made them so good, to begin with. If you’re only looking for cheap scares and to see some teens get chopped out then crack on and binge.

Stretch is set upon by the Sawyer clan and kidnap her in retaliation to her radio exploits so they can protect themselves from the long arm of the law.
The 2nd movie definitely didn’t reap the success of the very first film and besides the remake of the original no other ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ film will ever hold up to the original. If all the films from the franchise were on Netflix then it would be worthwhile watching this film, besides that by skipping this one you aren’t missing out on much.

The film originally debuted for the London fright film festival back in August 2016 and a couple of months later was released to cinemas in the USA. With the release of the film being limited to very few cinemas across the country, it stagnated any hype that may have developed around the film. With its premise similar to that of previous horror movies while enjoyable, the film doesn’t do anything to set itself apart from the rest.

This film is full of laughs from the start to finish and was a devilishly fresh comedy/horror on the ‘Killer Hillbillies’ genre. While in itself is a parody, it’s easily one of the best comedy/horrors to come out in a very long time. There are guts and gore, there are laughs and romance and of course dead teenagers. Enjoy!

The town is a dream come true for drug users, marijuana growers and for crazy kicks with their conspiracy theories. But after a group of vacationing teens accidentally set up their campsite on the land of a drug-addled pot farmer they are in one for one hell of a night after he claims Aliens are out to get him.
The film was a directorial debut for Trevor Ryan and he wasn’t afraid to go all out for his debut. While the film’s premise sounds a jumbled mess this whack and zany comedy horror is perfect for those looking for that B movie binge.
