Mike Flanagan is a big name when it comes to horror and has become a recent staple on Netflix with the famed director having worked on “Gerald’s Game” and the upcoming “The Haunting of Hill House” arriving on Netflix in October 2018. Here’s a full look at his past work and which titles you can currently stream on Netflix and where. 

Born in 1978, the writer and director has now been involved in a host of horror movies over the year and his upcoming Netflix series is a bit of a departure. Some outlets have gone as far as to say he’s one of the best modern horror directors.

The Haunting of Hill House

Releasing on Netflix: October 12th, 2018

Much like Mike Flanagan’s other Netflix project, this project is based on a novel. Unlike Mike Flanagan’s other Netflix projects, this is the first TV series the famed director is actively involved in.

It arrives on Netflix among a slew of fantastic Netflix Originals that are lined up for October 2018.


Gerald’s Game

Released on Netflix: 29th September 2017

Stephen King’s titles have found their way into multiple movies and TV series over the past few years and Gerald’s Game is possibly the shining light among them. Relying on practical effects, the movie is particularly gory and features arguably Oscar-worthy performances from Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood.


Before I Wake (2016)

Mike’s first big Netflix Original project was back in 2016. The movie featuring Kate Bosworth, Thomas Jane and Jacob Tremblay which looks a couple who adopts a boy whose dreams manifests in the real world whether pleasant or more often than not, unpleasant.

This 2016 slasher movie is available in the majority of Netflix countries including all of the English speaking countries we chose to cover. The movie takes place in the retreats of the woods where a deaf writer fights for her life when a masked killer turns up on her doorstep.

The movie stars Kate Siegel, John Gallagher Jr, Kate Siegel and Samantha Sloyan.


Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)

Ouija isn’t a new concept as it’s been used in countless horrors throughout the year. This movie which involves the board that can connect with the dead did offer some unique aspects not explored before. The movie was both written and directed by Mike Flanagan and starred Kate Siegel (a regular in Mike’s movies), Sam Anderson, Annalise Basso and Parker Mack.


Oculus (2013)

Available on Netflix in Canada and the United States

Featuring Karen Gillan who’s known for her role on Doctor Who made her horror movie debut in 2013 in this well-regarded horror. The movie follows a brother and sister who are now grown up looking for answers as to what happened to their parents many years ago.
