Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne in Instant Family – Picture: Paramount Pictures
Happy Friday! Welcome back to your weekly rundown of everything new that’s hit Netflix in the US over the past seven days, including some highlights of ours, the full list of everything that’s dropped, plus a check-in on what’s been topping the TV and movie charts.
While there’s still much to look forward to throughout the remainder of May, we’re also now getting a good feel of the new movies and series scheduled to drop throughout June 2025. Highlights include some modern and older horror classics, the final season of Squid Game, and our hotly anticipated new drama series, The Waterfront.
What to Watch on Netflix This Week
Instant Family (2018)
Rating: PG-13
Language: English
Genre: Comedy, Drama
Director: Sean Anders
Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Rose Byrne, Isabela Merced
Writer: Sean Anders, John Morris
Runtime: 118 min / 1h 58m
If you’re looking to chill to a family comedy with plenty of heart and a pinch of chaos, Instant Family is for you. Celebrating its seventh birthday this year, the movie follows Pete and Ellie, played by Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne, who unexpectedly come into the possession of a ready-made family after they adopt one kid but find out he comes with three siblings.
Audiences and critics loved the chaos upon its theatrical launch in the fall of 2018, and it remains a favorite right now, carrying the precious Certified Fresh rating. Critic Ian Freer wrote for Empire Magazine in his review, “For all its formula, Instant Family is a winning confection, unafraid to go to unexpected dramatic places and elevated by Byrne’s gift as a comedy foil and Moner’s lively but subtle turn.”
Love, Death and Robots (Volume 4)
Number of episodes: 10
Rating: TV-MA
Language: English
Genre: Animation, Short, Action
In my bio, there are a few Netflix shows that I absolutely adore, and one of them is the anthology animation series Love, Death and Robots, which comes from Tim Miller, David Fincher, and Jennifer Yuh Nelson. Each episode is like throwing the dice, getting to see some of the ambitious animation work in a range of styles from creators who pour their hearts and souls into each frame. While I can’t say all 10 episodes rank in my favorites of all time, there’s plenty in this new season to love. If you love animation or need a quick fix of Emmy award-winning storytelling, this show is for you.
Paddington in Peru (2024)
Rating: PG
Language: English
Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy
Director: Dougal Wilson
Cast: Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Ben Whishaw
Writer: Michael Bond, Paul King, Simon Farnaby
Runtime: 106 min / 1h 46m
For the first time in the US, you’re now able to watch the third Paddington on a subscription service following its initial theatrical release earlier this year. The first two movies are absolutely adored the world over, and while the third doesn’t quite follow in the excellent pawsteps, it’s still an adventure worth embarking upon.
In this entry, we’re headed on a globe-trotting adventure with Paddington, looking to return to his ancestral home of Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy.
Just a note, though, if you’re planning on signing up for Netflix to watch Paddington in Peru, you’ll need to do so with a premium tier of Netflix, given that it’s entirely blocked on Netflix’s ad tier.

It’s a full house of points for the feel-good comedy Nonnas, which touched down on Netflix last week for Mother’s Day weekend. While it didn’t get off to the best of starts in the global top 10s, it’s clearly resonating with audiences across the US. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is continuing its strong performance in the US top 10s as it shares part of its first window with Max (now HBO Max again?). Twilight is also still doing well following its addition to the library in early May.
