Get ready to head back to Raccoon City and beyond! Ahead of a highly anticipated theatrical return for the franchise, Netflix is bringing a massive collection of six Resident Evil movies to its US library on September 1st, 2026.
Here at What’s on Netflix, we love a good franchise binge, and September is kicking off with an absolute bang. If you’re itching for some T-virus chaos before visionary director Zach Cregger (Barbarian, Weapons) drops his brand-new survival horror Resident Evil reboot in theaters on September 18th (which will head to Netflix US before the end of the year courtesy of Sony’s Pay-1 window), Netflix has you covered.
While we aren’t getting every single installment (at least from the announced titles so far and the ones we’ve found coming), Netflix is serving up a healthy dose of Milla Jovovich’s wasteland adventures, alongside two fan-favorite CGI animated features that tie directly into Capcom’s iconic video games.
Here’s the full list of Resident Evil movies coming to Netflix US on September 1st:
- Resident Evil: Extinction (2007) – The zombie apocalypse hits the desert. Milla Jovovich goes full Mad Max as she helps a convoy fight their way through the wasteland toward Alaska.
- Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010) – Alice brings the fight to Los Angeles. Expect slow-motion action, heavily stylized zombie kills, and a supposed safe haven that turns out to be a deadly trap.
- Resident Evil: Retribution (2012) – Trapped in a massive underwater Umbrella facility, Alice has to blast her way through simulated cities and clones of her past friends to survive.
- Resident Evil: Damnation (2012) – Pivoting to the CGI animated universe, this entry drops fan-favorite Leon S. Kennedy into a war-torn Eastern European country to investigate the use of Bio-Organic Weapons. Packed with Lickers and Tyrants, it bridges the gap perfectly for hardcore fans of the game series.
- Resident Evil: Vendetta (2017) – Continuing the animated continuity, this slick thrill ride teams up franchise legends Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Rebecca Chambers to stop a deadly new virus from wiping out New York City. Expect some seriously incredible, over-the-top gun-fu sequences.
- Resident Evil: Death Island (2023) – The ultimate all-star team-up for franchise fans. Legacy heroes Leon, Chris, Jill, Claire, and Rebecca finally join forces, heading to Alcatraz Island to investigate a terrifying new T-Virus outbreak where the undead are waiting in the cell blocks.
As is often the case with complex streaming licenses, this September drop won’t give you the complete franchise. Hardcore binge-watchers will notice a few notable absences from the Milla Jovovich era, including the Paul W.S. Anderson original Resident Evil (2002), the Nemesis-heavy Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), and the saga’s conclusion, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016). Johannes Roberts’ 2021 live-action reboot, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, is also sitting this one out, alongside two entries from the CGI animated universe: the first film, Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008). If you’re looking for a true start-to-finish marathon, you’ll have to go hunting across other platforms or VOD to fill in the gaps!

Don’t Forget Netflix’s Own Exclusive Resident Evil Titles
Can’t wait until September 1st to get your zombie fix? You don’t have to! Netflix already houses its own exclusive corner of the Resident Evil universe. If you want to start your binge early, the streaming service is home to:
- Resident Evil (2022) – Netflix’s ambitious live-action series spans two timelines. We follow Jade Wesker fighting for survival in a post-apocalyptic 2036, while flashing back to 2022 to uncover the dark secrets of New Raccoon City and her father, Albert Wesker (played by the late Lance Reddick). As you probably know, the series was swiftly canceled.
- Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness (2021) – A four-part CGI animated spin-off series set squarely in the game canon. The show reunites RE2 survivors Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they unravel a massive conspiracy following a devastating cyberattack on the White House.
Between the Netflix Originals, the incoming September 1st movie drops, and Zach Cregger’s brand-new cinematic vision hitting IMAX screens shortly after, it’s going to be a busy month for Resident Evil fans.
Of course, this is one of the benefits of Sony Pictures being a gunslinger in the streaming wars. As we’ve just seen recently with Spider-Man, having complete control of your library without having your own streaming service to keep fed, you can strategically license out your library to help gain awareness and leverage the likes of Netflix effectively as marketing for your new project.
