Yet another licensed anime is coming to Netflix in April 2026. Subscribers can look forward to streaming the popular sports anime Blue Lock, which will be added to the Netflix library on April 24, 2026.
Blue Lock is a Japanese sports-thriller anime series produced by Eight Bit and directed by Tetsuaki Watanabe and Shunsuke Ishikawa (season 1). The anime is an adaptation of the manga of the same name by author Muneyuki Kaneshiro. The manga began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump Magazine in August 2018 and is still ongoing, with 38 volumes published and, as of September 2025, over 50 million copies in circulation.
The second season of the anime has been the subject of plenty of criticism, with fans highlighting its poor animation. Given the manga’s fantastic illustrations by Yusuke Nomura, Blue Lock deserves much higher-quality animation.
Japan, one of the best-performing Asian nations for soccer, is lagging behind its European and South American counterparts. Enter Jinpachi Ego, who, with the Japan Football Union’s permission, has a radical new project to bring Japanese soccer into a bold new era. Ego’s goal is to forge the world’s best striker, and recruits 300 talented U-18 players to take part in Blue Lock, a specially made elite facility, which will put the players through grueling challenges and matches in order to unlock the players’ latent abilities and ultimately find the diamond in the rough with the ego to become the world’s best. Isagi Yochi is one of 299 players selected for Blue Lock, and in order to achieve his dream, he must be willing to crush the dreams of the other participants to become Japan’s hope for World Cup glory.
