Among the 2024 animated slate for Netflix includes the adaptation of the best-selling book by Aaron Blabey. Netflix has unveiled the movie’s full voice cast and provided some new first-look images for the title.
As a quick catchup, Thelma the Unicorn is a new feature film from the talented studio Mikros Animation, which is also behind the upcoming Sandy Cheeks Spongebob movie and Orion and the Dark.
The project was first announced by Netflix back in June 2019, with Jared and Jerusha Hess behind the screenplay for the adaptation, while Jared and Lynn Wang are directing the project.
Per Netflix, here’s a synopsis for the forthcoming movie:
“Thelma is a small-time pony who dreams of becoming a glamourous music star. In a pink and glitter-filled moment of fate, Thelma is transformed into a unicorn and instantly rises to global stardom. But this new life of fame comes at a cost. Thelma the Unicorn is a quirky, hilarious and heartfelt ride from directors Lynn Wang (Unikitty!) and Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite).”
Netflix has yet to officially unveil when the new movie will be dropping on the service other than at some point in 2024. The movie was recently rated PG, so we suspect it’ll be arriving relatively soon.
Who will voice star in Netflix’s Thelma The Unicorn?
Brittany Howard will headline the cast as Thelma. The writer, musician, performer, and actress is best known for winning multiple Grammys, including the 2019 hit Stay High.
Rounding out the voice cast includes:
- Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth, Nebraska)
- Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords, What We Do in the Shadows)
- Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones, Knives Out 2)
- Fred Armisen (Wednesday, Saturday Night Live)
- Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover, Between Two Ferns)
- Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite, Blades of Glory)
- Maliaka Mitchell
- Ally Dixon
