You may have read that all eight of the Harry Potter movies are coming to Netflix. That’s certainly not the case for most as has been reported. Here’s what you need to know about the rumours and why they’re not true.

Multiple outlets across the net have been falsely reporting that the Harry Potter movies are on the way to Netflix. While it’s true that some regions will be getting the movies, it’s false to assume that all regions of Netflix will be. Most outlets reporting on this are primarily on Facebook which is probably where you saw the news.

If you live in France or Belgium, you’ll be getting all eight movies from the Harry Potter era. This includes the first movie, the Philosopher’s Stone all the way through to the final two parts of ‘Deathly Hallows’. All eight movies are arriving on November 1st.

Why aren’t the movies coming everywhere? Well, as you may know, Netflix picks up content on a per region basis. Each region has a completely different library with mostly only Netflix Originals spanning the entire worlds various libraries. Some countries get better movies while others get better series.

As we’ve covered before, Harry Potter movies remain mostly away from Netflix thanks to it being distributed by Warner Brothers. In the United States, Warner Brothers typically keep their movies confined to HBO and in the United Kingdom, more often than not, Harry Potter movies are found on Sky or the NowTV service.

If you are in the United Kingdom, you’ll be treated to another complete movie franchise with all three Lord of the Rings movies coming to Netflix. For those in the US, you can see what’s coming in November here.

Some have also reported that Fantastic Beasts may also join Netflix. There’s no evidence to this either and likewise, the first movie remains away from Netflix.
