Updated: October 10ths, 2017
Just in time for Halloween, Netflix is bringing us Mindhunter, a detective drama that explores the minds of some of America’s most infamous serial killers. It’s based on the nonfiction book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, by Mark Olshaker and John Douglas.
“How do we get ahead of crazy if we don’t know how crazy thinks?”
The Minds Behind The Series
The series is directed by David Fincher, who has already made a number of excellent movies involving serial killers including Seven, Zodiac, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Executive producers include Fincher, Joshua Donen, Charlize Theron and Cean Chaffin.
Fincher first partnered with Netflix as an executive producer for House of Cards. He is no stranger to malevolent crimes.
Jonathan Groff plays Holden Ford and Holt McCallany plays Bill Tench, two FBI agents in the serial crime unit on a journey to reach inside the minds of killers.
Additional cast includes (L-R) Anna Torv as Wendy, a psychologist based on Dr. Ann Wolbert Burgess, Cotter Smith as Shepard, unit chief of the FBI National Training Academy, and Hannah Gross as Debbie.
Groff and McCallany play a pair of FBI agents who are trying to figure out how the minds of sociopathic killers work. They then go from police station to police station to teach their techniques. This was a time when criminal profiling did not exist and the term “serial killer” was just being invented.
The trailer explores the difficulty the agents have in dealing with the monsters in the prisons and the fascination they have with them.
Update: Netflix has just released a new teaser and it’s…chilling.
