Eli is an upcoming Netflix Original horror directed by Ciarán Foy, he previously directed Sinister 2 (2015) and Citadel (2012)The screenplay was written by David Chirchirillo, Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing. After the film’s completion in December 2018, Netflix picked up the distribution for Eli but chose to wait until Halloween to release it.

When did the production of Eli take place?

Originally, Eli belonged to Paramount and a January 2019 release date was scheduled, but because of Paramount’s struggle to figure out how to market Eli, they instead sold the distribution rights to Netflix.

Filming began on the 29th of January 2018 and concluded on the 12th of March, 2018. Post-production lasted from April 2018 to September 2018, it was announced on the December of that year that the film had been completed, but this also coincided with Netflix’s purchase to distribute the film.

It’s somewhat surprising Netflix has taken so long to release Eli, although it makes sense they held back a horror title for their Halloween line-up.
