Following the surprise drop of the first five seasons on the service last year, the Shlorpian family is officially returning to our screens. Solar Opposites Season 6 will make its way to Netflix in the US (and other regions expected on the same date) on October 13th, 2026.
Co-created by Rick and Morty alum Mike McMahan and Justin Roiland, the hit adult animated sci-fi series has been a massive draw since it first premiered, famously setting records as Hulu’s most-watched original comedy premiere. The show revolves around a highly dysfunctional family of aliens who escape the destruction of Planet Shlorp and crash-land on Earth. Their mission? To survive long enough to let their infant-like Pupa terraform the planet—though they usually end up distracted by Earth culture, petty squabbles, and shrinking humans.
As you may remember, the first five seasons made the jump to Netflix globally last year. We’re happy to report that the Season 6 addition is expected to be a global rollout as well, and is definitely confirmed for the US library.

How is Solar Opposites Performing on Netflix?

Thanks to Netflix’s bi-annual Engagement Reports, we know that Solar Opposites has found a pretty robust second life on the platform, particularly for an animated show. Since its arrival, it’s picked up 111 million viewing hours on the streamer globally, equating to 28.7M views.

What to Expect from Season 6 (and Why Fans Are Divided)

With an ensemble cast featuring Thomas Middleditch, Mary Mack, Sean Giambrone, and Dan Stevens (who seamlessly replaced Justin Roiland following abuse allegations), Season 6 was ordered by Hulu as the grand finale of the series. However, like many ambitious sci-fi shows, the ending was met with mixed reactions from audiences.
Some fans felt the final season was a bit rushed—drawing comparisons to divisive TV finales like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Lost. A major point of contention was the swift conclusion to the multi-season arc of “The Wall.” In the final episodes, Christina Hendricks’ Cherie and the tiny survivors abandon their quest for Yumyulack’s shrink ray upon realizing it would kill the infant Pezlie, ultimately bartering with the teenage alien for better supplies.
Despite tying up many loose ends, the show leaves one massive cliffhanger: [again, spoiler in case you’re going in fresh] a flash-forward 90 years into the future hinting that Earth’s destruction wasn’t caused by the Pupa, but accidentally by Cherie.
Could Netflix (or Hulu) Order Solar Opposites Season 7?
As of right now, Season 7 is not currently ordered. Hulu officially ended the show’s run with Season 6. But in the streaming era, a cancellation isn’t always the end of the road.
In a recent exclusive interview with ScreenRant regarding his new Golden Axe adaptation at Paramount+, co-creator Mike McMahan was asked about the chances of a Solar Opposites revival. McMahan chuckled and gave fans a glimmer of hope, teasing that the Shlorpians “are not getting out that easy.”
“Every time you think they’re out, they get pulled back in,” McMahan said. Speaking on the controversial Season 6 conclusion, he added: “I love that ending. I will defend that ending for everybody in the world. I have — if they ever let us bring it back, that ending is going to pay off in a really fun way.”
Given the show’s massive success (it even spawned four holiday specials during its Hulu run), the door certainly isn’t bolted shut. Plus, with McMahan’s schedule recently clearing up following the end of his acclaimed animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks (which concluded with Season 5), the creator certainly has the bandwidth to bring his ambitious future storylines to life.
