'Ray Gunn' Full Voice Cast Revealed; Alan Tudyk, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Chernus Among New Additions

Brad Bird’s retro-futuristic animated epic Ray Gunn boasts one of the most star-studded voice casts in Netflix history. From Marvel superstars and comedy legends to Pixar royalty, here is your complete guide to the massive ensemble bringing the world of Metropia to life.

While we’ve got you covered on the stunning new trailer and the film’s theatrical release details in a separate post, we wanted to take a deep dive into the vocal talent behind this 1939-tinged sci-fi noir.

Ray Gunn, arriving on Netflix on December 18, 2026, centers on a discreet private investigator drawn into a sprawling case involving aliens, murder, and a pop superstar. To pull off a world this rich, Skydance Animation and director Brad Bird (The Incredibles, The Iron Giant) have assembled a truly jaw-dropping cast.

The Core Cast

Sam Rockwell as Raymond “Ray” Gunn

The Role: The titular protagonist. Ray is a small-time private eye detective navigating the seedy, alien-filled underbelly of Metropia.
Where you’ve seen him: An Academy Award winner for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Rockwell is famous for his roles in Moon, Iron Man 2, Argylle, Vice, and The Way Way Back. He’s also no stranger to animated voiceover, having recently voiced Mr. Wolf in The Bad Guys.

Scarlett Johansson as Venus Nova

The Role: A famous pop star struggling with a massive scandal that threatens to destroy her career—and possibly cost her her life.
Where you’ve seen her: A global superstar, Johansson is best known as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s also received immense acclaim for Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit, and Lost in Translation. Voice-wise, she delivered a legendary vocal performance as the AI in Spike Jonze’s Her, and voiced Ash in the Sing franchise.

Tom Waits as Eyera

The Role: Ray’s alien colleague and trusted sidekick.
Where you’ve seen him: Waits is a legendary, Grammy-winning musician known for his distinct, gravelly voice. As an actor, he’s delivered memorable turns in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Seven Psychopaths, Licorice Pizza, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Alan Tudyk as Barry Vogel

The Role: We think he’s the manager of Venus Nova as evidenced by him being in an office surrounded by golden records on the wall.
Where you’ve heard him: The modern king of Disney voice acting (Moana, Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph, Encanto). You also know him in live-action from Resident Alien, Firefly, and as the droid K-2SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

The Villains & Scoundrels

Matt Berry as Francis “Slugsy” Xavier

The Role: A towering, spongelike mob boss deeply entrenched in the criminal underworld.
Where you’ve seen him: Berry is a British comedy icon with one of the most recognizable voices in television. He is best known as Laszlo Cravensworth in What We Do in the Shadows, as well as starring in The IT Crowd, Toast of London, and voicing the pig in the Fallout TV series.

Brad Bird as Gunsol and Musker

The Role: Slugsy’s two squat, squirmy alien henchmen.
Where you’ve heard him: The film’s director couldn’t resist jumping into the recording booth! Bird famously provided the voice for the iconic Edna Mode in his Pixar masterpiece The Incredibles, as well as Ambrister Minion in Ratatouille.

The Extended Ensemble Cast

Netflix’s latest announcement added a massive slate of incredible character actors, comedians, and voiceover legends to the Metropia roster. While their specific character names haven’t all been revealed yet, here is who else you can expect to hear:

Bobby Cannavale: The two-time Emmy-winning actor is known for his magnetic intensity in Boardwalk Empire, The Watcher, The Irishman, and as Paxton in Marvel’s Ant-Man.
Michelle Rodriguez: An action royalty legend, best known as Letty Ortiz in the Fast & Furious franchise, as well as starring in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Avatar, and Lost.
Patton Oswalt: Voicing a “hologram” in the film, Oswalt is a stand-up comedy giant and voiceover veteran (who famously voiced Remy in Brad Bird’s Ratatouille). Recently, you’ve seen him in Netflix’s The Sandman and A.P. Bio.
John Ratzenberger: It wouldn’t be a Brad Bird movie without him! Ratzenberger (Cheers) is the ultimate Pixar good-luck charm, having voiced characters like Hamm in Toy Story, the Underminer in The Incredibles, and Mack in Cars.
Michael Chernus: Beloved for his role as Ricken in Apple’s hit series Severance, as well as playing the Tinkerer in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Cal in Orange Is the New Black. Kether Donohue: Best known for her hilariously chaotic role as Lindsay Jillian in You’re the Worst, as well as Pitch Perfect and the animated series Birdgirl.
Aasif Mandvi: The actor and comedian currently stars as Ben Shakir in the hit series Evil, and is widely known for his time as a correspondent on The Daily Show.
Matt Jones: Breaking Bad fans will immediately recognize Jones’s raspy voice as Badger. He’s also starred in the sitcoms Mom and Bob Hearts Abishola.
Kathryn Hunter: A legendary stage actress who has recently delivered incredibly memorable, uncanny performances in Andor (as Syril’s mother), Poor Things, and The Tragedy of Macbeth.
Jamie Costa: Known largely for his uncanny impressions and incredible voiceover work on YouTube, as well as various shorts and Robot Chicken.
Justin Peck: A fascinating addition! Peck is a Tony Award-winning choreographer (Carousel, Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story). Will he be choreographing an animated sequence for Venus Nova, or just lending his voice? We’ll have to wait and see!
“Buck” as a Weapons Dealer: In a hilarious piece of trivia, Brad Bird reportedly hired his son’s former soccer coach—known only as “Buck”—to voice an underground weapons dealer in the film.
