Netflix continues to invest heavily in Dutch productions. While more serious titles such as De Eetclub (The Perfect Lie) and De Stilte (The Silence) are currently in active development, comedy remains a major focus as well. Netflix has now officially confirmed that Roosters (Haantjes) will return for a third and final season, with production already underway.
The comedy series quickly became one of Netflix’s biggest Dutch hits. Its first season spent weeks at the top of the Dutch Netflix Top 10, while the second season is also performing strongly and continues to attract a large audience. A third season, therefore, comes as no surprise.
In the final season, we once again follow friends Mike, Danny, Ivo, and Greg as they try to find their place in a world that never seems to stop changing. Netflix has shared the following synopsis: “In the third season of Haantjes, Mike, Danny, Ivo, and Greg feel as though the roles have been reversed. While the men are searching for love and connection, the women begin to behave more and more like roosters.”
Who Is Returning for Season 3?
For the show’s farewell season, most of the familiar faces will be back. Returning cast members include Jeroen Spitzenberger (De Vuurlinie), Waldemar Torenstra (Wraak), André Dongelmans (Kill Mode), Benja Bruijning (Dirty Lines), Jennifer Hoffman (De Luizenmoeder), Jelka van Houten (Tropenjaren), Eva Laurenssen (Nemesis) and Fockeline Ouwerkerk (Mocro Maffia).
Several new faces are also joining the cast:
- Anna Drijver (Undercover)
- Jade Olieberg (Mocro Maffia)
- Nazmiye Oral (Undercover)
- Peggy Vrijens (Spangas)
- Ricky Koole (Penoza)
- Lykele Muus (De Oost)
- Aimé Claeys (Knokke Off)
The series is directed by Anna van Keimpema (Happy Single), Philip Besamusca and Elzelien Peters (Dertigers). The screenplay is written by Luuk van Bemmelen and Martijn Hillenius, while production is handled by Hollands Licht, the company behind projects such as Ted Lasso and Dunkirk. Anna van der Heide (Dirty Lines) returns as creative producer.
Cameras Are Rolling Across the Netherlands
Filming is now in full swing. What’s on Netflix has learned that production is expected to continue at least through mid-July. Scenes are being shot at several locations across the Netherlands, including Amsterdam, Bilthoven, Blaricum, and Bunschoten.
Casting notices have also revealed a few intriguing details. The production recently searched for extras to appear in scenes set at a gender reveal party and in cafés. There is also said to be a mysterious “men’s gathering” featured in the new season, although exactly what happens there remains under wraps for now. Interestingly, the team was also looking for a baby to appear in one of the episodes.
With filming progressing smoothly, a 2027 release for the third and final season appears highly likely. Given how far production has already advanced, it would not be surprising to see Netflix launch the new episodes relatively early in the year.
