One of the best Netflix Originals to come out in the past couple of years is The Crown. The multi-award-winning television show has garnered praise worldwide, and audiences across the world are waiting in anticipation for the release of season three. Here is everything we know so far about The Crown season 3.

There are many popular and fantastic Netflix Originals on Netflix. None have captured the hearts of audiences more than Netflix Original The Crown. The show is a dramatized adaptation of the life of Queen Elizabeth II, her relationships with her family, and the politics behind being the queen of an empire.

The events of the series take place over many years and include notable landmarks in the Queen’s life, such as her wedding to Prince Phillip, the death of her father, King George the VI, and her subsequent coronation, as well as some of the most notorious events in the British Empire’s history.

What happened at the end of season 2 of The Crown?

*SPOILERS*

The finale of season 2 focused on the infamous Profumo Affair. It was a scandal that shook British politics to its core. Secretary of State War John Profumo had been having an affair with the model Christine Keeler. Keeler had also been in an affair with Soviet naval attache Eugene Ivanov.

Seen as a threat to national security, the scandal resulted in the resignation of both Profumo and Prime Minister Harold Macmillan. The man who introduced the pair, Stephen Ward, committed suicide.

The narrative of the show focuses on both the Profumo Affair and the scandal of Prince Phillip, who supposedly was in attendance at the party where Keeler was introduced to Profumo. While Queen Elizabeth struggles with controversies surrounding both her husband and the inadequacies of the British government, she gives birth to her 4th child.

What is the cast of season 1 and 2 of The Crown doing now?

Leading lady Claire Foy gained international recognition for her role as Queen Elizabeth II. Her performance as the Queen earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Foy recently portrayed Janet Armstrong in First Man as the wife of astronaut Neil Armstrong. Foy has also been cast to play Lisbeth Salander in the movie adaptation of The Girl in the Spiders Web. It will continue to be a busy time for the actress as she is now one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood.

Matt Smith was already well renowned for his work as the 11th Doctor on the famous British Sci-Fi series Doctor Who. Smith’s work in science fiction will continue as he has been cast in the latest episode of the Star Wars saga. Notably, Smith has also been cast as Charles Manson in Charlie Says.

Will there be a season 4 of The Crown?

As stated earlier in the article, creator Peter Morgan is already writing the story for season four. As we’ve discussed above, filming for season three has concluded, but filming for season four is expected later this summer. We can expect a shorter wait between both seasons being filmed back to back.

It is expected that The Crown will have a total of 6 seasons, but depending on the success of seasons three and four, we will see if Netflix renews for another two seasons. The Crown is one of the most expensive shows in history, so the next 2 seasons will need to be a massive success, like seasons one and two, to warrant the cost of any subsequent seasons.
