Wednesday will be back for season 3 on Netflix, but it won’t be on your screens anytime soon. With a long wait ahead as the series is currently deep into production, a 2027 release is now confirmed. Here’s our ongoing preview of everything we know about season 3 of Wednesday so far, now that production has been underway for a few months in Ireland and France, and all the major new cast members have been unveiled as of July 2026.

In case you missed it, Netflix has officially confirmed that Wednesday will return for a third season on July 23rd, 2025, confirming the renewal alongside new artwork. That news came alongside the revelation that a spin-off series focusing on Uncle Fester remains in early discussions, first reported in 2023. Netflix’s renewal came just ahead of season 2’s premiere, which will air in two parts in August and September 2025.

Of course, many had predicted that season 3 was inevitable, and some early production listings suggested it was in the works much earlier than Netflix had publicly planned. Upon the renewal, showrunner Alfred Gough said, “Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can,” adding, “We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday.”

Miles R. Millar and Alfred Gough serve as showrunners and executive producers, joined at the executive producer level by Kayla Alpert. Matt Lambert, Diane Ruggiero, and Jenn Kao work as co-executive producers, while Danielle DiPaolo is credited as co-producer. Raphie Cantor serves as executive story editor, and Lore V. Olivera is a staff writer.

How well did Wednesday season 2 perform on Netflix?

As expected, Wednesday season 2 delivered the biggest TV premiere of 2025, pulling in 50 million views in its first week on Netflix. In total, Wednesday season 2 spent 11 consecutive weeks in the global top 10s, picking up 881 million viewing hours.

On December 9th, 91 days after season 2 part 2 had released, the show had completed its run and ranked fourth in Netflix’s all-time English TV top 10 list (although Stranger Things 5 would later topple it and push it down to fifth).

In that 91-day window, Wednesday season 2 picked up 928.5M hours watched, equating to 119.3M views. Season 2 was notably down quite a lot compared to season 1; in fact, based on the views, it ultimately ended up 52% down.

What to expect from Wednesday season 3

Warning: The following section contains spoilers. Proceed with caution!

Season 2 wraps up with plenty of loose ends, with season 3 of Wednesday being teed up as the show’s darkest chapter. Here’s a look at what we can expect:

  • A road trip with Uncle Fester: Enid is now a full-fledged Alpha werewolf, and it’s unclear if she’ll ever turn back into a human. Wednesday opts to go on a road trip with Uncle Fester to find her, rather than returning home for the summer.
  • A Parisian Detour: As you may know, Wednesday and Fester are going beyond state lines. Filming took over central Paris starting April 18th, 2026, with set photos showing Jenna Ortega (sporting new bangs) and Fred Armisen zooming down the cobblestone streets next to the river Seine on Fester’s iconic sidepod motorcycle. Directed by Tim Burton alongside cinematographer PJ Dillon, this high-stakes VFX-heavy sequence promises a major European adventure. Emma Myers was later spotted filming in Paris, too.
  • A new enemy: Wednesday is concerned that her moment of mercy—when she chose to free Tyler instead of killing him—will come back to haunt her. Tyler is still out there, possibly waiting to seek revenge.
  • The return of Ophelia: After Morticia gives Wednesday her great-grandmother’s book to help her with her psychic abilities, Wednesday has a vision of her estranged Aunt Ophelia. It seems Ophelia is locked up somewhere and is determined to see Wednesday die. The words “Wednesday must die” are scratched on a wall in Ophelia’s vision.
  • The search for a new principal: Nevermore has a new opening for a principal, an unfortunate position that has now claimed two people.
  • A Deadly Welcome Feast: To celebrate the start of production in February 2026, Netflix released a casting teaser styled as an Addams family dinner party. The teaser was packed with clues, including Ophelia’s name tag attached to a bleeding cake (hinting at a murder mystery theme), mysterious letters on the seating cards (like an “O” or “0” for Tyler), and a burning name tag for Enid (foreshadowing her alpha wolf struggles). Hardcore fans also spotted a second Lurch-like figure, believed to be Varicose, the Frump family’s loyal butler.

In press notes provided to outlets following the release of season 2, part 2, we got new quotes from the creators about where we’re headed.

Showrunner Alfred Gough confirms that the show is going to take a dark turn, saying first and foremost, “The Ophelia who we get a glimpse of at the end of Episode 8 will definitely play a bigger part in Season 3, and will lead us into more Addams family mysteries.” Adding further, “With everything in the Addams family, the mysteries always lie within the family. That glimpse of Ophelia is what’s going to lead us into the next season and potentially the darkest chapter of the Addams family.”

Co-creator Miles Millar notes the cryptic scrawl, “Wednesday must die,” is “a big part of Season 3,” and underscores the theme: “The Addams family love each other, but they also love secrets and lying to each other. It’s that juxtaposition of love and lies.”

Wednesday will not face it alone. Fred Armisen said to Netflix, “Fester and Wednesday end the season embarking on a hunt for Enid, who is an Alpha stuck in her werewolf form,” and promises, “More adventures and then a strengthening of that bond. They’re buddies for life.” Meanwhile, Gough hints that Tyler is not out of the picture: “He will definitely be showing up again.”

Other threads teased at the end of Season 2 also point forward. Gough explains Morticia’s final act: “At the end of the season, Morticia learns that she has to trust Wednesday. That’s why you have the scene where she gives Ophelia’s journal to Wednesday, because both Ophelia and Wednesday are Ravens. Maybe some of the answers to getting her ability back lie in that journal.” Millar also assures fans that Gwendoline Christie’s Weems will return despite leaving on sabbatical: “We’ll definitely see more of Weems. Gwen is a key part of the show, and the character of Weems is still embedded in Nevermore and Wednesday herself. We’re not sure quite how it’s going to happen or when it will happen exactly, but we definitely want to bring Gwen back.”

New and Returning Cast Members for Wednesday Season 3

The first major new cast member for Wednesday season 3 was announced on November 25th, with Eva Green confirmed for the role of Aunt Ophelia Frump. In a statement upon the news, Green said, “I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of ‘Wednesday’ as Aunt Ophelia. This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckooness to the Addams family.”

In February 2026, Netflix dropped another massive casting bombshell, revealing that a Beetlejuice reunion is heading to Nevermore. Winona Ryder has officially booked a guest-starring role as Tabitha, reuniting her with Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton. As we wrote about when we decoded the new teaser trailer, she had a B to her name, which some have theorized is related to an antagonist group, perhaps the Balthazars.

Joining Ryder and Green as new cast members this season are veteran actor Chris Sarandon (The Princess Bride), Noah Taylor (Game of Thrones, Peaky Blinders), Oscar Morgan (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), and newcomer Kennedy Moyer. Taylor will play Cyrus, Morgan will play Atticus, and Moyer will play Daisy (all with B’s on their name cards). Sarandon will play Balthazar.

In April 2026, Netflix revealed that even more star power is enrolling at Nevermore Academy. Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, The Abandons), 80s icon Andrew McCarthy (St. Elmo’s Fire, Pretty in Pink), and James Lance (Ted Lasso) have all been cast in undisclosed but highly anticipated guest-starring roles for Season 3.

However, amidst the new arrivals, we will be saying goodbye to one familiar face. Noah B. Taylor, who played Bruno Yuson, will not be returning for the third season, officially making room for the new Peaky Blinders alumni, Noah Taylor.

Elsewhere, Netflix has confirmed the official list of returning cast members:

  • Jenna Ortega (Wednesday Addams)
  • Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair)
  • Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galpin)
  • Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay)
  • Moosa Mostafa (Eugene Ottinger)
  • Georgie Farmer (Ajax Petropolus)
  • Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams)
  • Billie Piper (Isadora Capri)
  • Luyanda Unati Lewis- Nyawo (Sheriff Ritchie Santiago)
  • Victor Dorobantu (Thing)
  • Evie Templeton (Agnes DeMille)
  • Luis Guzman (Gomez Addams)
  • Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams)
  • Joanna Lumley (Grandmama Hester Frump)
  • Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester)

Where is Wednesday Season 3 in Production?

Development
Filming Scheduled
Filming Ongoing
Post-Production

As of mid-February 2026, filming is officially underway on Wednesday season 3, with a number of crew members posting stories confirming the news (via wensadms on X). To celebrate the start of filming, showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar released a statement reading: “It’s our dark delight to fling open Nevermore Academy’s gates once more as we begin production on Season 3. We thank our invincible cast and crew for their continued commitment to doom and gloom.”

When production listings began to emerge for Wednesday season 3 in early 2025, it suggested filming was initially scheduled to start in Fall 2025, but that was eventually pushed back.

The February 2026 start date first came from OpenBrolly, which confirmed prep for the new season began in late July, and filming officially started on February 16th, 2026. Their production end date is May 22nd, 2026, but it’s believed the series will actually be in production for around 7-9 months (according to various casting calls seen by What’s on Netflix), which would mean a wrap sometime around November 2026.

As we’ve previously spoken about, the code name for season 3 is reportedly NIGHTSHADE & RAVEN, which has a few connections to the show. Nightshade Society is the secret student organization at Nevermore Academy, and Raven has many symbiotic connections. There’s also a school event called the Rave’N Dance.
In addition, OpenBrolly reports that season 3 is also operating under the working title Briarcliff, a deep-cut reference to Briarcliff Manor, NY, the home base of the Tee & Charles Addams Foundation.

The new season heavily utilizes Irish backdrops. Season 2 successfully relocated from Romania to Ireland, and Season 3 is continuing that trend by shooting extensively across Dublin and County Wicklow.

Filming in Ireland hit a temporary snag in late June 2026 when newcomer Eva Green suffered a “really nasty” leg injury on set. Medical staff were called to the scene near Dublin, and Green was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Production schedules had to be temporarily rearranged while she received care, but reports confirm the actress is doing well and actively recovering.

Various casting calls from Celtic Casting were issued in early 2026, looking for a myriad of extras and doubles for the upcoming season. Among the posts were calls for “diverse young adults to play high school students,” beatboxers, dancers, and even Gorgons (hinted by the need for specific head coverings). There was also an interesting call for extras to fill a “high-end stylish Manhattan restaurant,” which has fueled massive fan speculation that Wednesday may be taking a bite out of the Big Apple in a future episode.

One place we do know Wednesday is headed in season 3 is France! As mentioned above, filming moved out to central Paris in mid-April 2026. Fans and paparazzi caught Jenna Ortega, Fred Armisen, and Tim Burton filming an intense sequence right along the cobblestone streets next to the River Seine. Armed with Fester’s iconic sidepod motorcycle, it is heavily implied that this will tie directly into the duo’s globe-trotting hunt for the missing Enid.

The most recent snap we got of everyone behind the scenes came courtesy of Emma Myers in late June:

Who will direct in Wednesday season 3?

Whether Tim Burton would return with a directing credit on season 3 was up in the air, although alongside the casting announcements mentioned above, Netflix referred to him as a director and executive producer on the third season. As with season 2, he will share directing credits again with Paco Cabaezas, confirming on Instagram that he’s one of the block directors. He directed episodes 2 and 3 of Season 2: “The Devil You Woe” and “Call of the Woe”.

When will Wednesday Season 3 be streaming on Netflix?

With production taking up most of 2026, that certainly rules out a late 2026 return. As a reminder, Season 1 took around 6 months of production, whereas Season 2 took closer to nine and a half months in total. Netflix did confirm that the series was not amongst the 2026 slate as part of Next on Netflix (What Next?).

2027 seems most likely, and our sources indicate that Netflix is still considering a Summer or Fall 2027 return for the series. Of course, we don’t know whether they’ll split season 3 up again, but the fan reaction to this decision has been mixed at best. All of this is subject to change, as plans often do.
