Why HBO’s ‘Sharp Objects’ Won’t Come to Netflix

Sharp Objects – Picture from HBO

HBO’s blockbuster new series starring Amy Adams has begun with season 1 now airing weekly on Sundays. Season 1 of Sharp Objects won’t be coming to Netflix at all as we’ll explain below.

Let’s be honest, HBO produces some of the best television going. Netflix is fast catching up in the content library size but it still fails to get the same level of hype as shows such as Sharp Objects. Although it’s only a miniseries and won’t be coming back for future seasons, it’s still got a level of hype unlike what Netflix is putting out, especially in the summer.

The new series starring Amy Adams is a slow burn but critics agree that the atmosphere, which is key to a thriller, is among the very best of thriller series. Sophie Gilbert from The Atlantic has called the series ‘undeniably enticing.’

Sadly, Netflix won’t be getting Sharp Objects added to the service in any region. The reason? HBO doesn’t ever add its content to Netflix. This is because HBO sees themselves as Netflix’s biggest competitor. Much how Netflix Originals don’t come to HBO, HBO shows don’t go to Netflix.

Netflix’s DVD rental department will likely get the box set in 2019 at some point.

Where can you stream the show in the United States?

HBO offers several streaming options. Perhaps the best option for most will be the HBO add-on available for Hulu or the HBO Go option. Both are streaming new episodes plus will hold the series on its library for years to come. Amazon Prime has been the recipient of some older HBO shows but it’s unlikely they’ll get Sharp Objects.

Will any region of Netflix get Sharp Objects?

Nope. HBO takes their attitude to Netflix around the world with the exception of documentaries which we regularly see added in other regions on Netflix. Like the US, their big hitters such as Westworld and Game of Thrones have all remained away from Netflix.

Are there any Amy Adams movies on Netflix?

There are currently five movies that are streaming on Netflix featuring Amy Adams. These include Cruel Intentions 2, Sunshine Cleaning, Big Eyes, Leap Year and Trouble with the Curve. For fans of ‘The Office,’ you’ll know Amy Adams featured in the earlier seasons of the show and is a love interest of Jim.
