It’s been a long time coming, but His Dark Materials is finally airing on our televisions around the globe. It’s been 12 years since the release of The Golden Compass, and finally, the modern-day classic is receiving the treatment it deserves by fleshing out the story and characters across multiple seasons. There’s been a high demand to watch the series by subscribers, unfortunately, the series won’t be coming to Netflix anytime soon. We’re here to tell you why His Dark Materials isn’t coming to Netflix and where you will be able to stream it elsewhere.

His Dark Materials is a fantasy drama series based on the trilogy of books of the same name by author Phillip Pullman. After the backlash of the film, The Golden Compass, received, plans for any future films were put on hold. After several years without any sequels, the rights were given back to Pullman. The first season will cover the events of the book, Northern Lights, and the already renewed second season will cover the events of the second novel, The Subtle Knife. His Dark Materials is a co-production between British broadcaster the BBC and American network HBO.

In a parrel universe, magic science and theology are entwined. Lyra, a young orphan, searches for her friend that was kidnapped but uncovers a grave and sinister plot. Discovering that even more children are being kidnapped, Lyra embarks on an adventure with her daemon Pantalaimon to understand the mysterious phenomenon called Dust.
