What’s Coming to Netflix This Week: July 28th to August 3rd, 2025

We’re over the hump of 2025 and now barrelling towards the second half of the year with lots of new movies and series to look forward to. What can we expect this week, though, as we cross into August? Here’s your preliminary rundown of everything coming up over the next seven days.

Most Anticipated New Releases on Netflix This Week 

Leanne (Season 1)

Coming to Netflix: Thursday

Multi-cam sitcoms have very much fallen out of favor at Netflix, with The Upshaws currently being the only title in Netflix’s roster that’s active, although that’s soon coming to an end. Chuck Lorre, the producer behind iconic shows like The Big Bang Theory and Mom (which was recently added to Netflix), is the king of the format and is working on a new one for Netflix called Leanne. It arrives this week and will hold the record for having some of the most episodes of any English Netflix Original in a single season. 

Headlined by Leanne Morgan, the series follows her character’s world as it gets turned upside down when her husband of over three decades unexpectedly leaves her for another woman. Supported by her family, including her ride-or-die sister Carol (Kristen Johnston), Leanne learns to embrace the chaos and finds strength, laughter, and hope in the most unexpected places. 

My Oxford Year (2025)

Coming to Netflix: Friday

If you’re like us, you can never get too much of Sofia Carson, and this week will see her third major project in the past year touch down on Netflix, with this one being yet another romantic comedy with a uniquely British twist. The plot revolves around Carson’s character, who attends Oxford University to fulfill her dreams. However, while her plan is to focus and not get distracted, those plans quickly fall apart upon the arrival of Corey Mylschreest’s character. 

The Lazarus Project (Seasons 1-2) 

Coming to Netflix: Monday

Anyone else missing Supacell? Us too! Sadly, production on the second season of that has not gotten underway, but we do have another British sci-fi series to tide us over in the form of The Lazarus Project, which aired on Sky in the UK and TNT in the US and now comes to Netflix in full given that it didn’t pick up a season 3 renewal. 

Starring Paapa Essiedu, Anjli Mohindra, and Tom Burke, the series centers on George, who reluctantly joins The Lazarus Project, a secret group that can rewind time to prevent global catastrophes. While only members remember the reset timelines, George faces a personal crisis when tragedy strikes someone close to him, but the organization won’t intervene unless the entire world is at risk. It’s a well-written sci-fi drama that hooks you in almost instantaneously.
