It’s a good day for 3 Body Problem fans! Production on the eagerly awaited next chapters of Netflix’s mind-bending sci-fi epic is officially in full swing. Today, we’ve got an exclusive first look at stars Marlo Kelly and Jess Hong, plus (potential spoiler) filming some highly dramatic new sequences on Camber Sands beach in East Sussex, England, as season 3 gets underway.
As the hit series from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (alongside Alexander Woo) pushes forward to wrap up Cixin Liu’s sprawling narrative, these new behind-the-scenes snaps give us a tantalizing glimpse into what to expect.
Crucially, while these photos show the cast braving the British elements, this UK shoot is actually a major exception for the show’s new production cycle.
Here is a breakdown of the new set photos, what they mean for the story, and why this brief return to the UK is so significant.
A Brief Return to the UK Before Heading to Hungary
If you’ve been following the production of 3 Body Problem, you’ll know that Season 1 was essentially a British production. The debut season was filmed almost entirely in the United Kingdom, utilizing major studio spaces and various location shoots across London and the surrounding counties.
However, seeing the cast on the breezy shores of Camber Sands today is a bit of a rarity for this current leg of the journey.
As we first reported all the way back in April 2025, Season 2—and the newly commenced Season 3—is actually being filmed predominantly in Budapest, Hungary. The production has officially moved its primary base of operations to Eastern Europe to utilize its massive soundstages and sweeping locations, a common move for massive sci-fi epics of this scale. So, while it’s fantastic to see the cast back on UK soil for these specific beach sequences, don’t expect the UK to be the primary backdrop as the war against the San-Ti escalates.
What are they filming at Camber Sands?
The new photos reveal a striking—and very confusing—contrast between the characters, which is exactly what we’ve come to expect from the reality-bending world of the show.
Jess Hong, who plays the theoretical physicist Jin Cheng, is spotted in tattered, mud-stained, and historically vague “peasant” clothing. Given her attire and the bleak, sandy environment, it’s highly likely Jin is diving back into the San-Ti’s advanced virtual reality game.
Meanwhile, Marlo Kelly, who plays the fiercely loyal human-alien liaison Tatiana Haas, is sporting a sleek, tactical all-black outfit, complete with knee-high boots. But it’s not all clean-cut for Tatiana; several shots show her with a heavily bloodied right arm and hand. Is she tracking down Jin in the real world, or has the VR game become far more visceral and deadly?
Season 1 was notably filmed (relatively) nearby at Cuckmere Haven Beach near the Seven Sisters cliffs.
What Else Do We Know About the Final Seasons?
These new set photos perfectly align with our recent production coverage and scoops. Here is a quick recap of where the show stands:
- Filming is Underway: As we exclusively reported, Season 3 was scheduled to begin filming in June 2026. Seeing the cast on Camber Sands today confirms that cameras are indeed officially rolling on the final chapters!
- A Reduced Episode Count for Season 2: We recently confirmed that Season 2 will feature a reduced episode count compared to the first season. The creators have been clear that they are filming exactly the number of episodes they need to reach the story’s epic, natural conclusion.
- New Faces Joining the Fray: The universe is expanding! As production ramps up in Hungary, four major new characters are being introduced. While we don’t see them on the beach today, expect some more casting announcements to drop soon when Netflix lets us reveal them!

A Massive Book Spoiler Hidden in Plain Sight?
Eagle-eyed fans looking through the photos will notice a third, incredibly important cast member on set: Sea Shimooka, who plays the San-Ti’s AI avatar, Sophon. She is seen wearing her signature all-black, slicked-back look.
With Sophon wielding a book of Fairy Tales, Jin covered in mud, and Tatiana looking bloodier than ever, it’s safe to say the creators are pulling no punches for the remainder of the series. In multiple photos, Sophon (or a crew member handing it to her) is holding a green, gold-embossed book clearly titled “Fairy Tales”.
Minor spoiler warning for the books: Fans of the third novel, Death’s End, know exactly what this means. This is almost certainly a reference to Yun Tianming’s (Will Downing in the show) fairy tales—a massive plot device containing heavily coded metaphors and hidden messages about how humanity can survive the Dark Forest and the San-Ti threat. Seeing it on set means the show is diving headfirst into some of the wildest concepts of the final book!
