Among the many Next On Netflix announcements revealed earlier this year, the confirmation of a new docuseries following the Australian superstar’s trajectory to fame. Details are scarce, but what do we know about the mysterious project named after its subject: Kylie?

2026 will mark the 40th year of Kylie Minogue’s career, since her first appearance in Australian soap opera Neighbors (she returned for a cameo when the show was rebooted a few years ago). But the public at large knows her as a pop singer, from teen pop 80s singles to adventurous incursions in electronic and rock in the 90s, to the international takeover of Fever (2001) and its inescapable single Can’t Get You Out Of My Head. Thus, it is quite logical that a documentary project would be established at that point; in mid-2024, The Mirror reported that Netflix had won a bidding war for the rights to a Kylie Minogue docuseries. All of this remained unconfirmed by the platform until earlier this year, when the Kylie project was among the dozens of documentaries planned for a 2026 release. So what do we know exactly?

What is Kylie about?

The press material plays its cards very close to the chest, with its official synopsis comprising all of two words: “Kylie Minogue”. As The Mirror reported back then, the project is a fly-on-the-wall documentary that is expected to follow Minogue during the promotion and tour of her latest studio albums, Tension and Tension II (2024). The project is also said to be a “tell-all” look at her career in music, movies, and television, but also offers a look at her personal life and her relationships. A new report in the Mail on Sunday said she would tell her side of her love affair with INXS frontman Michael Hutchence, which she dated in the early 90s. All of these reports are still unconfirmed by Netflix, as is the episode count for the docuseries: a profile for the production company Ventureland mentioned it would be three episodes.

Who is behind Kylie?

Michael Harte

These details, at the very least, are confirmed: the director is Michael Harte, who worked as an editor on numerous documentaries, including Three Identical Strangers and Apple Original Still about Michael J. Fox, for which he won an Emmy Award. The production company is British/American Ventureland, which is no stranger to Netflix, having produced the 2023 feature, Wham!

When can we expect Kylie?

The documentary is expected on Netflix later this year, but no specific timetable is known. We can also expect Minogue herself to make the promotional rounds globally.
