Netflix has just announced a big new original comedy movie, Women Like Us, which will bring together a powerhouse cast of Hollywood legends including Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox. Here’s a rundown of everything we know so far about the upcoming feature.

The new film marks the very first collaboration between two major production companies: MACRO Film Studios (founded by Charles D. King) and Higher Ground, the media company founded by President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.

Directing the feature is Tasha Smith (Bel-AirHarlemMayor of Kingstown). If that name sounds familiar to Netflix subscribers, it’s because Smith is already deeply embedded at Netflix already. Not only is she directing the upcoming Netflix film Tis So Sweet (starring Taraji P. Henson and Joey Bada from Tyler Perry), but she’s also a familiar face in front of the camera, starring in the comedy series Survival of the Thickest.

Women Like Us is based on an original script by Ali Kinney, who is best known to subscribers for writing on Netflix’s massive hit series Ginny & GeorgiaTracy Oliver (Girls TripThe BlackeningHarlem) is also on board for writing duties.

Producing the feature are James Lopez and Poppy Hanks for MACRO Film Studios alongside Anikah McLaren and Mark R. Wright for Higher Ground. Executive producing the movie are Michelle Obama for Higher Ground and Charles D. King for MACRO.

Higher Ground has been incredibly busy at Netflix lately. Women Like Us joins an expansive slate of recent and upcoming projects from the Obamas’ production banner, including the hit apocalyptic thriller Leave the World Behind, the dark comedy series BodkinRustinAmerican SymphonyWorking: What We Do All Day, and the currently untitled Julianne Moore-led mother-daughter comedy. Netflix fans will best know the studio for their work on the fan-favorite sci-fi conspiracy romp They Cloned Tyrone and the acclaimed drama Mudbound.
