Get ready to head back behind bars. Netflix has officially greenlit another season of the Indian reality series Lock Upp following its highly viewed—and highly controversial—debut on the streamer earlier this summer.

The renewal was officially announced by Monika Shergill, Netflix India’s Vice President of Content, during the FICCI Frames 2026 event. Confirming that Bollywood stars Riteish Deshmukh and Farah Khan will be reprising their roles as the strict and authoritative hosts, Shergill teased the crowd, stating, “We are not letting our jailors go on leave.”

Netflix India also confirmed the news on X (formerly Twitter):

While a premiere date and the next batch of celebrity inmates have yet to be announced, anticipation is already running high. The reality format, which sees controversial figures confined together in a makeshift jail where they must compete in challenges and survive audience voting, has proven to be a massive engagement driver for the streamer.

Here’s a breakdown of how the show performed and what fans are saying.

How well did Lock Upp perform on Netflix?

Despite a divisive reception, Lock Upp pulled in solid numbers. The series spent two weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 for Non-English TV, racking up over 34 million hours viewed in that timeframe.

Many viewers criticized the Netflix iteration of the show (following its previous life on AltBalaji with host Kangana Ranaut) for feeling heavily scripted and overly dramatic. Reviewers frequently used terms like “rage bait,” complaining about the alleged bias of the “jailors” and the production team.

Contestants like Shreya Kalra, Harshad, Apoorva, and Shilpa were frequent targets of audience ire. One user described the season as having “Too much acting, not enough reality,” noting that Farah Khan spent most of her time shouting and interactions felt purely performative. Others were furious over the elimination of fan-favorite Yogesh and the ultimate crowning of the winner, calling the voting system completely “biased.”

Here is how its Global Top 10 run breaks down:

Week in Top 10 Week Period Hours Viewed Views (CVE) Weekly Rank
1 Jun 28 to Jul 5, 2026 13,800,000 (New) 1,900,000 8
2 Jul 5 to Jul 12, 2026 20,400,000 (+48%) 1,500,000 9

Beyond the global charts, the series dominated regional Top 10s. According to Top 10 data, the series was a mammoth hit across South Asia and the Middle East, reaching the coveted #1 spot in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, and Mauritius.

In India and Pakistan, the show showed incredible legs, surviving in the daily Top 10 for 41 and 44 days, respectively. It also managed to cross over into Western markets, charting briefly in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
