Update (03/07/2017) – The series and movie no longer have an expiration date and have likely been renewed.
Star Wars fans could be losing all 6 seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars in March as the series is currently scheduled to expire on March 7th, 2017. We’re going to take a quick look as to what’s going on, whether it’s actually leaving and if it does leave, where it’ll end up streaming.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is an animated spinoff series from the world-renowned Star Wars franchise. Both the movie and series, both streaming on Netflix, take place between episodes 2 and 3 of the prequel movies. It introduces plenty of new characters and keeps old rivalries going throughout. The series is canon too so is an essential viewing for any diehard Star Wars fan.

Wait, isn’t Star Wars: The Clone Wars only on Netflix?
Star Wars: The Clone Wars initially aired on Cartoon Network before coming to a close with season 5. It was then announced that a few remaining unreleased episodes, would be coming exclusively (alongside the rest of the show) to Netflix. While it wasn’t released as Netflix Original, it’s certainly exclusive to Netflix, and even on Wikipedia, Netflix is currently listed as the network and distributor of the show.
What’s going on then? Well, often shows have expiry dates added to them which means that the show simply comes up for renewal. In a lot of instances, the series is then renewed. In the case of Star Wars, it’s a little different as it was picked up by Netflix.
Is it leaving or not?
At the moment, it’s too early to tell. An official list of titles leaving Netflix is released towards the very end of the month so it’s best to wait until then but just in case, it’s probably best to start picking up on your binge of the show.
What about the movie?
The original movie, that released in 2008, is currently not scheduled for removal which could indicate that it’s just a glitch for the series as you’d have thought the two were sold as a pair.
Netflix in 2017 will be picking up last years release, Rogue One which is thought to be coming to Netflix during the summer. We’ve also compiled a list of other Star Wars content on Netflix too!
