The long-awaited sequel to Zombieland is now out in cinemas but will the movie be destined to stream on Netflix? Let’s take a look at the upcoming streaming plans for Zombieland: Double Tap and whether and when it’ll be on Netflix.
The follow-up to 2009’s unexpected cult hit Zombieland has been in the making for a decade and although reviews for the second film don’t quite hit the same level as the original, it’s still a must-watch for many.
It sees the return of Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone facing off with zombies.
Will Zombieland: Double Tap be on Netflix in the United States?
The second Zombieland movie may come to Netflix further down the line like the original but not immediately.
The first window rights belong to Starz which has an overall output deal with Sony Pictures who produced and distributed the movie. Starz will get the movie in mid-2020. Sony Picture’s current deal with Starz lasts until 2021 although it’s worth noting Netflix does get all Sony Animation titles.
The original movie constantly finds itself streaming on Netflix in the United States. In fact, it was just recently announced to be returning to Netflix on November 1st, in the United States. The movie last found itself on Netflix in May before leaving in August.
Netflix will get the chance to nab the streaming rights further down the road but probably won’t be until the mid-2020s.
Will Zombieland: Double Tap be on Netflix internationally?
Some Asian regions get Sony movies on a quick timeline. These include locations such as South Korea, Hong Kong and Thailand who all get Escape Room in the first window. Again, this would mean Doubletap releases in mid-2020.
The Netherlands also seems to get new Sony movies but not as quickly as the Asian regions so they could expect to see before the end of 2020.
Netflix UK gets new Sony movies roughly two years after they debut in cinemas. Just recently, Netflix UK got Jumanji: Welcome ot the Jungle. Based on this schedule Doubletap should arrive on Netflix UK in 2021.
Are you going to be headed to the cinema to watch Zombieland: Double Tap or waiting for another avenue?
