We finally have a release date for Ink, the highly anticipated new film from Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle. Starring Jack O’Connell, Guy Pearce, and Claire Foy, the biographical drama will hit theaters in late 2026 for a lengthy exclusive run before making its streaming debut on Netflix in the United States and Latin America in early January 2027.
The project, which was shot in London in late 2025, is a major awards contender for the upcoming season and a massive pickup for Netflix.

What is Ink about?
Ink is a literary adaptation based on the critically acclaimed, Tony- and Olivier Award-winning original play of the same name by James Graham, who also penned the screenplay for the film.
The biographical period drama focuses on the birth of modern tabloid journalism. It follows a brash young Rupert Murdoch as he seeks to transform the fortunes of the struggling British newspaper, The Sun.
Netflix’s official logline for the movie reads as follows:
“The film is an explosive cinematic rollercoaster about a group of visionaries and misfits who had an idea for a new kind of news — one that would give the people what they want and would change the face of the world we live in today.”
Who is in the cast of Ink?
The film boasts a stellar trio of British and Australian heavyweights in its leading roles:
- Guy Pearce (Memento, The Proposition) will play the ambitious media mogul Rupert Murdoch.
- Jack O’Connell (Godless, Unbroken) will play Larry Lamb, the visionary first editor of Murdoch’s revamped Sun.
- Claire Foy (The Crown, Women Talking) rounds out the leading cast as Joyce Hopkirk.

Academy Award winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later) is in the director’s chair. As mentioned, James Graham adapted the script from his own hit play.

When will Ink release on Netflix?
Before it hits Netflix, Ink is going to have a very busy fall.
As we previously highlighted in our Netflix Fall 2026 Festival Lineup preview, Ink is poised to make a massive splash on the festival circuit. The movie has been selected to open the 83rd Venice International Film Festival before making its North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Following its festival run, the film will follow a traditional awards-season rollout (as first reported by Variety):
- Limited Theatrical Release: December 11, 2026
- Netflix Streaming Release: January 8, 2027
That gives Ink an exclusive 28-day theatrical window.
A full four-week run on the big screen is a remarkably healthy theatrical window for a Netflix release. While the streamer typically limits its theatrical engagements to a week or two for basic Oscar qualification, giving Boyle’s feature a dedicated 28 days in cinemas signals immense confidence in the film’s box office draw and overall awards potential.
