After recently leaving the HBO Max library, we can confirm that the next streaming home for Steven Spielberg’s produced series, Falling Skies, is Netflix. Fans won’t have to wait much longer as Falling Skies will be released on Netflix on New Year’s Day.
Netflix is currently on a licensing spree. With rival streaming services ready to license its content out to Netflix once more, the streaming service has picked up a bunch of movies and series from the likes of HBO, AMC, Paramount, and even Amazon.
As we enter an almost unprecedented era of licensing on Netflix, there have been plenty of surprises. The latest of which is the apocalyptic sci-fi series Falling Skies, created by Robert Rodat, which previously ran for five seasons on TNT between June 2011 and August 2015, and was produced by legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg.
DreamWorks Television produced the first three seasons before Amblin Television took over from season four. The series is the second such Amblin Television series to be licensed by Netflix, following Halle Barry’s short-lived sci-fi series Extant, which was added to the Netflix library in August 2025.
Falling Skies stars Noah Wyle as Tom Mason, a former history professor, one of the last human survivors of a devastating alien invasion of Earth, and now second-in-command of the 2nd Massachusetts Militia Regiment, a resistance group fighting back against the alien invaders.
When is Falling Skies coming to Netflix?
Netflix has yet to list the release date on the landing page, but we can confirm that all five seasons of Falling Skies will be coming to Netflix US on January 1st, 2026.
Currently, Netflix US is the only region where Falling Skies will be available to stream.
