Here’s everything we know so far about the new movie.
Here is our comprehensive guide to everything you need to know about A Matter of Time, including plot details, who is involved, and an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the cast.
Who is in the cast of A Matter of Time? (Plus Exclusive First Look Photos!)
Thanks to some eagle-eyed photographers in East London, we have our first exclusive look at the cast in action. Production was spotted shooting scenes in Clerkenwell, primarily focused around a local pub and a church, marked with signage reading “Saint Peter’s Community Centre.”
The cast list boasts a stellar mix of Hollywood legends and fast-rising UK stars. Here’s a breakdown of the cast, their notable credits, and a look at what they were up to on set:
- Ben Stiller (Severance, Zoolander, There’s Something About Mary): Stiller was seen looking sharp and commanding in a tailored blue suit, standing near the entrance of the community centre and chatting with the crew.
- Nicholas Galitzine (Red, White & Royal Blue, The Idea of You, Mary & George): The actor kept things smart-casual, spotted walking the steps in a blue button-down shirt, jeans, and carrying a brown corduroy jacket. He was also seen sharing a laugh in the director’s chairs between takes with a co-star.
- Bella Maclean (Sex Education, Rivals): Maclean was captured on the cobblestone streets keeping it casual in a light blue shirt, dark flared jeans, and classic Adidas sneakers.
- Emma Sidi and Amy Wren: Both British actresses were confirmed on set. Sidi is best known for her scene-stealing role as Kate in Starstruck and appearances in Ghosts, while Wren is highly recognizable as Mildrith in Netflix’s The Last Kingdom, along with roles in Viewpoint and Wuthering Heights. The photos reveal a frantic, hurried sequence featuring a woman in a brown blazer and jeans carrying an oversized blue duffel bag, rushing down the steps.
- Cecily Cleeve (Legends, Widow Clicquot): The rising young star was spotted alongside the hectic scene, dressed in a maroon school uniform with a backpack, clutching a grey stuffed animal.
While character names and specific roles are being kept tightly under wraps, the juxtaposition of Stiller’s sharp-suited character against Galitzine and Maclean’s casual everyday looks has us wondering who will be playing the “unlikely angel” and who will be the “reclusive man.”
What is the plot of A Matter of Time?
Netflix has provided a fascinating official logline for the upcoming film, blending high-stakes supernatural elements with romance:
“An unlikely angel is sent from heaven to convince a reclusive man to give up his life for the greater good. The man agrees, only for his impending death to trigger a new lease on life, and a romance that threatens to change the course of history.”
The film is being helmed by Harry Bradbeer, a name Netflix fans will be incredibly familiar with. Bradbeer directed both Enola Holmes and Enola Holmes 2 for the streamer, and is highly celebrated for his Emmy-winning work on hit series like Fleabag and Killing Eve.
The screenplay has some heavy hitters behind it, written by a collaborative team that includes Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road), Madeleine George (Only Murders in the Building), Peter Byrne, and Academy Award winner Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, The Full Monty).
The project is produced by Debra Hayward (Les Misérables, Bridget Jones’s Baby), Larry Mark (The Greatest Showman), and Sony Pictures. Michael Dreyer (The Two Popes) serves as executive producer.
What is the production status and release date?
As evidenced by our exclusive photos, A Matter of Time is currently in production as of summer 2026. Given the current filming schedule, it is much too early for Netflix to announce an official release date.
Assuming a standard production cycle, we expect filming to wrap up in the coming months, putting the film on track for a potential mid-to-late 2027 release.
