'Fixed': Everything You Need to Know About The R-Rated Netflix Animated Comedy

After being cut from Warner Bros. Pictures, Genndy Tartakovsky’s adult animated adventure, Fixed, about a dog who embarks on an adventure with his friends on the eve of his neutering, is coming to Netflix on August 13, 2025. Here’s everything we know about Fixed on Netflix ahead of its release.

Fixed is an upcoming Netflix Original adult-animated comedy film directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, who also co-wrote the screenplay and story, and also served as one of the producers on the film.

Sony Pictures Animation produces the film, and was originally meant to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures through New Line Cinema. However, after Warner implemented cost-saving measures, the film’s theatrical release was cancelled and was eventually picked up for distribution by Netflix.

Tartovsky had the following to say about the project upon the announcement that Netflix picked up the film.

“I have been friends with the same group of four guys since high school. These guys make me laugh like nothing else, so I was thinking, ‘Can I translate this humor to animation? I love caricatured and exaggerated animation, so I knew the sensibility that I like to do and it was a matter of dialing [up] the amount of exaggeration. I think it started out as a rated-R Lady and the Tramp, then as we got into it, it naturally became more cartoon-y and specific to itself. I would say it began to really take shape as we were fortunate to hire some of the best animators working in 2D from around the world.”

Ahead of its Netflix debut on August 13, Netflix had Fixed as part of its broad lineup for the Annecy Animation Film Festival. That’s where it got its world premiere in addition to being hearing more about the film from Tartovsky. As we covered during the event, the movie received a warm reception from all attendees, with the film easily eliciting the most laughs of all the festival films. In another presentation, Tartovsky said, that as recently as October 2024, Tartakovsky felt the project was dead in the water. “Nobody wanted to buy it,” he said. “You start to feel sad… like the animation gods hate me now.” That all changed within a few months, though. “In January [2025], all of a sudden, we get a phone call,” he recalled. Netflix had come on board. “It was such a happy New Year gift.”

What is the plot of Fixed?

Bull, an all-around but lovable bloodhound, discovers he is going to be neutered in the morning. Realizing the gravity of his situation, Bull realizes he wants to go on one last adventure with his best friends, which he rallies together to celebrate the last 24 hours he has with his balls.

Speaking about the origins of the film, the creator said, “And the story is based on me and my friends, I mean we all have balls, but it’s based on my friends, we all grew up each other, we all grew up together, we make each other laugh like any front group and two of my friends are here to help me kind of write the story with Steve and Rich.”

Who is in the voice cast for Fixed?

Adam Devine plays the role of Bull, the slick and quick-witted bloodhound. The actor has starred in a handful of Netflix films, including Game Over, Man!, When We First Met, Isn’t It Romantic, Extinct, and The Outlaws. He was also the voice of Sam-I-Am in Netflix’s adaptation of Green Eggs and Ham.

Idris Elba plays Rocco, a confident boxer. The actor has a prolific filmography, with arguably too many films and TV projects to mention; however, for Netflix, the actor has starred in Molly’s Game, Concrete Cowboy, Extraction 2, Luther: The Fallen Sun and Turn Up Charlie.

Kathryn Hahn plays Honey, Bull’s show-dog neighbor and crush. The actress has starred in many popular American comedy films such as Anchorman, The Holiday, Step Brothers, and Bad Moms. For Netflix, the actress starred in Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion, The Do-Over, and Private Life. However, she is arguably most well-known for her role as Agatha Harkness in the MCU.

Fred Armisen plays Fetch, a dachshund and wannabe influencer. The actor starred in Netflix’s Game Over, Man!, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, The Bubble, Unfrosted, and Thelma the Unicorn. He is also the voice of Elliot Burch in Big Mouth.

What did the reviews for Fixed say?

Given the film had its debut, Netflix allowed review embargoes to come out day and date, and the results were mostly positive. Our own Andrew Morgan got to review the film and concluded in his 3-star review:

“A lot of ingredients to savor – hand-drawn 2D animation, solid work from comedic voices we love, and some leftover funny dog observations not used in Strays or Best in Show. However, an unworthy premise, a far too horny vibe, and inconsistent quality of jokes make Fixed a more niche concoction to imbibe.”

While the movie doesn’t yet have a score, it’s aiming positively. The Wrap’s Drew Taylor was amongst the most positive for the film, highlighting Fixed’s uniqueness and audacity, calling it “one of the most original and surprising animated features of the past few years” and praising its bold R-rated, traditionally animated style born from director Genndy Tartakovsky’s passion project.

As mentioned, the movie did get a warm reception upon its release with Tartakovsky saying it was one of the best screeners he’s ever attended.
