Ginny & Georgia fans, the wait for Season 4 is getting shorter! In a recent behind-the-scenes Q&A on Instagram, showrunner Sarah Lampert answered a barrage of fan questions, spilling major details about where Season 4 is in post-production, giving a brief update on Season 5, and revealing some of the show’s best-kept filming secrets.

Season 4: Prepare for an Emotional Rollercoaster
If you’re wondering how far along Season 4 is, we have great news: post-production is in full swing.
When a fan asked what the most emotional episodes of Season 4 would be, the creator gave a definitive list: Episodes 6, 7, 9, and 10.
We already know the finale is packing a punch. When asked what the most exciting part of post-production is, the showrunner admitted it’s watching the director’s cuts. Recently, they watched the cut for Episode 10 and burst into tears within the first five minutes—not necessarily because of a tragic plot twist, but out of sheer, overwhelming pride in what the cast and crew accomplished this season.
Fans also asked about the editing process and how the team decides what to cut for time. The creator admitted it’s a grueling trial-and-error process with producers and Netflix executives, noting that Episode 9 was particularly agonizing to trim down. However, they confirmed they finally got it under time and teased it as a “phenomenal” episode.
One of the highlights of Episode 9 will be a peek directly into Maxine’s head. When asked if there was a scene that was difficult but rewarding to bring to life, the showrunner pointed to Max’s opening inner monologue in Episode 9. Drawing on their own personal experiences with ADD and OCD, the creator praised actress Sara Waisglass for perfectly executing the twitchy, hilarious, and energetic sequence.

Season 5 Status: No Word Yet…
While Season 4 is nearing the finish line, what about Season 5? When discussing the emotional weight of wrapping up the fourth season, it was quickly noted: “We don’t know about season five yet… We don’t know.”
As of right now, Netflix has not officially greenlit a fifth season, meaning Season 4’s viewership numbers will be critical, although the show has consistently been a strong performer, so we’re not particularly worried.

The Q&A also provided fantastic answers to fan questions about the daily reality of making the show:
- Real Houses vs. Sets – A fan asked if the show is filmed in real houses or on sets, and the answer is both! The exteriors of the Miller and Baker houses are real homes located across the street from each other (though a fake trellis was added to the Baker home so Marcus could climb it). The interiors of those homes, however, are 100% soundstage sets. Meanwhile, Cynthia’s house is completely practical, shot on location inside and out.
- The Chaos of Block Shooting – Are multiple episodes filmed on the same day? Yes! The production utilizes “block shooting” and “tandem days,” meaning up to four different episodes can be in play on a single day. To survive this grueling schedule, the hair, makeup, and wardrobe teams have to make strategic decisions, like keeping hairstyles simple so they work seamlessly across multiple out-of-order scenes.
- The “Cursed” Re-Used Prop – When asked if outfits and props are ever reused, the creator revealed a hilarious ongoing failure. In the pilot, Max gives Ginny a jean jacket. Every season, the showrunner intends to subtly put Ginny back in the jacket to symbolize their solidified friendship, and every season, they completely forget to write it into the script until it’s too late.
- The Pain of Filming Text Messages – A fan asked about the process of adding pop-ups and texts to the screen and as we’ve heard elsewhere, it’s particularly difficult. Capturing a simple shot of a character texting requires a tedious 20-minute setup and hand-doubles. The actual phone screens are never captured practically; the text messages have to be pre-written and approved by writers, and actors use pre-programmed apps where pushing a single button makes the text appear (or it’s added later via green screen).
When asked how long post-production takes and how many people are involved, the showrunner explained that it’s a massive remote undertaking that actually begins while the show is still filming. It involves a small army of picture editors, sound mixers, composers, music supervisors, and VFX artists.
A huge part of that process is the music. A fan asked if they get permission for songs before or after filming. Because songs are expensive and require strict clearances, the team usually films using a “thump track” (a basic beat for the actors to move to) so they aren’t locked into a specific song. However, occasionally they know what they want ahead of time—fun fact: the Season 2 scene where Ginny gives Paul a blue smoothie was originally cut to Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy”! Today, the indie-heavy soundtrack is pulled from a massive 30-hour Spotify playlist created by the showrunner to support undiscovered artists.
Finally, to close things out, a fan asked a very timely industry question: Does AI play a role in post-production now?
The creator’s answer was swift and definitive: “Nope, not for us. Nope.”
