The second season of the live-action One Piece is here! This means a small chunk of the total One Piece story has been adapted, finally taking the total percentage into double figures. But with less than a fifth of the One Piece story adapted so far, how much of the manga will the third season adapt? Let’s find out.

Eiichiro Oda’s pirate Odyssey is the best-selling manga (and comic book) of all time. The manga began on July 22, 1997, and is still ongoing today, with over 1,170 published chapters, 113 volumes, over 1,000 anime episodes, and sales exceeding 600 million. It is one of the most popular fictional franchises on the planet right now, and fans simply can’t get enough of Luffy and the Straw Hat Crew.

The first and second seasons of the live-action adaptations have been well received by fans. Heaps of praise have been directed at the cast, as well as the set designs and costumes. The challenge of the live-action adaptation remains the scale of the One Piece story and the time required to adapt it. Tomorrow Studios is doing a great job simply tackling the story season by season.

But let’s get to it and find out how much of the One Piece manga has been adapted so far by the live-action adaptation:

How much of the manga has the live action adapted so far?

With the second season officially over, we can confirm that 154 chapters of the 1174 published manga chapters have been adapted so far. This equates to 13.1% of the entire One Piece story.

This percentage will continue to decrease as more chapters are released.

How much of the manga will live action cover in season 3?

Based on the assumption that the third season will cover only the events of the Albasta Saga, this would bring the total number of manga chapters adapted to roughly 217.

Arc Manga Chapters Anime Episodes
Arabasta Arc 155-217 92-130

This means that, at the time of writing, if no further manga chapters were published, the total percentage of the One Piece story that would have been adapted is 18.5%.

Chapters of the One Piece manga are released weekly, but there are several breaks throughout the year. The third season of One Piece is likely to land on Netflix in Summer 2027, in either July or August.

For fun, let’s say live-action One Piece season 3 arrives in the last week of August, and there are no breaks in the manga between now and then, a further 76 manga chapters could be released. This would take the total number of published chapters from 1176 to 1252. This means that by the time live-action One Piece season 3 arrives on Netflix, the total percentage of the One Piece story adapted so far would drop to 17.33%.

Once you factor in breaks, the percentage adapted could be anywhere between 17.5% to 18%.

How much of the manga is left to adapt?

With the One Piece manga approaching 1200 chapters, and still many more to come, it cannot be overstated just how large the One Piece story is. As it currently stands, after Alabasta, there are nine more sagas to be adapted.

Saga Manga Chapters Anime Episodes
Sky Island Saga 218-302 136-206
Water 7 Saga 303-441 207-325
Thriller Bark Saga 442-489 326-384
Summit War Saga 490-597 385-516
Fish-Man Island Saga 598-653 516-574
Dressrosa Saga 654-801 575-746
Whole Cake Island Saga 802-908 747-889
Wano Country Saga 909-1057 890-1085
“Final Saga” 1058- Ongoing 1086- Ongoing

This has left many live-action fans hopeful that we’ll at least see the events of the Water 7 Saga adapted. The events of Water 7 could see the live-action series run for either 5 or 6 seasons, depending on whether they split the Water 7 and Enies Lobby arcs into separate seasons or opt for one long season with a split release.

As for seasons beyond that, Thriller Bark and Saobody could be adapted into one season, and the same for the events of the Summit War Saga.

We could see up to eight or nine seasons of live-action One Piece.
