Production has officially commenced on The Royals 2, the second season of the popular Indian romantic comedy series. The shooting commenced on September 18 in Rajasthan and is expected to continue through December, with plans to premiere it in the second half of 2027.
Ishaan Khatter returns as the leading man, reprising his role as Maharaj Aviraaj “Fizzy” Singh, a reluctant, polo-playing heir to the crumbling fictional kingdom of Morpur. He confirmed the shooting commencement with an Insta post, sharing images of a heritage haveli and clips of himself practicing horse riding, with a caption that reads: “Lock in. Log out. See y’all on the other side.”
Nora Fatehi, who plays his ex, Ayesha Dhondi, also returns and has already joined the sets. She posted a sneak peek from her shoot diaries, confirming her comeback to the show’s glamorous world. Also returning for the second season are Sakshi Tanwar, Zeenat Aman, Vihaan Samrat, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Kavya Trehan, Lisa Mishra, Chunky Panday, and Neena Kulkarni, among others.
Who’s joining The Royals Season 2 Cast?
Sini Shetty and Gurfateh Pirzada
The Royals Season 2 has also added several new cast members. We have exclusively learned that Sini Shetty and Gurfateh Pirzada have joined the cast in pivotal roles.
Sini Shetty, who was crowned Miss India World 2022, will be romantically paired opposite Khatter in the new season, replacing the first season’s female lead, Bhumi Pednekar, who exited the show following a creative overhaul that has shifted the show’s focus from the romance towards the internal dynamics of the royal family. Shetty is believed to be playing a new character instead of stepping into Pednekar’s role as Sophia. She is in the early phase of her acting career and is set to make her Bollywood debut with Dharma Productions’ upcoming horror film, directed by Undekhi fame Ashish R. Shukla. She was also supposed to star alongside Lakshya and Vikrant Massey in Dharma’s Dostana 2 before the film was eventually shelved earlier this year.
For Gurfateh Pirzada, The Royals 2 marks another addition to his growing Netflix slate. The actor has previously featured in multiple Netflix projects such as Guilty and Class and can currently be seen in Kiran Rao’s segment of the streamer’s latest release, Lust Stories 3. Pirzada will also feature in Danish Aslam’s Adhure Hum Adhure Tum, a Netflix rom-com that marks Imran Khan’s screen comeback.
Changes Behind The Scenes on The Royals Season 2
The Royals Season 2 has undergone a major creative change behind the camera as well. Nupur Asthana and Priyanka Ghose, who jointly directed the first season, are not returning. The directorial baton has now been handed over to Jasmeet K. Reen, who previously directed Netflix’s critically acclaimed black comedy Darlings (2022) starring Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, and Vijay Varma. Neha Veena Sharma has written the new season as well, while Raghav Dutt, known for his previous work on Farzi and Ram Singh Charlie, has penned the dialogues. Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy serve as creators and executive producers under Pritish Nandy Communications.

The second season of The Royals has gone into production more than 15 months after its premiere on May 9, 2025. The rom-com series achieved widespread popularity and immediately became the first Indian series to trend in Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English TV Shows across 58 countries. Its heady mix of romance, ambition, and betrayal sparked conversations among audiences, leading to its official renewal for a second season within three weeks of its debut.
For those needing a refresher, The Royals follows a financially struggling royal family in modern-day India whose fortunes take an unexpected turn when the heir teams up with a hospitality entrepreneur to revive their ancestral palace as a luxury resort. The second season promises to turn up the heat with more intrigue, drama, and twists.
At the time of the renewal announcement, creators, showrunners, and producers Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy of Pritish Nandy Communications shared a joint statement in a press release: “Season 1 of The Royals was our love letter to the romcom genre; palaces, polo races, midnight masqued balls, fort-top romps and raves—love at its most chaotic and charming. That struck a chord and trended globally. This told us just one thing: we had to come back for more. We are thrilled to team up with Netflix for a second season that’s going to be bigger, bolder, and even more fabulous. Expect more fire, more feisty banter, and yes, a whole lot of drama. Because in our world, the crowns may be metaphorical—but the chaos is royally real.”
