The cast for Stranger Things season 5 is mostly known. We have all the significant returns and a few new faces appearing in the fifth and final season of Stranger Things later this year, but one question mark is Eddie Munson. We know he’ll feature in some form, but will Joseph Quinn be back? The actor, who is currently promoting Fantastic Four, has and continues to be coy about his involvement.
The first tease came in Spring 2024, when he was asked a question while on stage, being asked directly, “Is he coming back for Season 5?” His answer, which was delayed after he scrambled to put his words together and answered, “I do know, but I’m not telling you. Good question.”

Now, fast forward over a year, and Quinn is promoting his new movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, set to release soon in theaters. Extra TV grabbed him for an interview and once again asked the question, “Before you go, I know those writers at Stranger Things are really creative. Any way that they could come back, you know, bring you in for a flashback?”
“Oh my god, yeah, I mean, it’s going to be out soon, isn’t it? Who knows?” replied Quinn, to which the interviewer asked if that means there’s a chance. His response? “There’s always a chance for anything, isn’t there, really? Nothing’s impossible.”

Furthermore, we also know that Quinn’s Spotlight page (similar to IMDb, but for casting professionals) was updated to include Stranger Things, which makes sense given he was in season 4 but now has a 2024 release date. Given that his season of the show aired in 2022, why would this say 2024? That’s when they filmed season 5… All of the other dates are for when projects were released, so why is this one out of place? Odd but not definitive by any means.
Of course, none of this is a categorical yes or no. However, we wouldn’t want to get your hopes up… his character is still very much dead, so a return seems highly unlikely.
What we do know is that Eddie Munson’s character will play a role in the story of season 5. As confirmed in the recent teaser trailer, which primarily featured footage from the first volume, Dustin goes to visit the grave of Edward Muson, which has been defaced with a message in paint (or blood?) that says “BURN IN HELL”. For context, Eddie was very much the prime suspect for the townspeople of Hawkins for the death of Chrissy Cunningham (among others) in season 4. He sacrificed himself at the end of season 4.

We also know from set leaks (potential spoiler: click the link) that Eddie will be honoured in another way in Season 5.
Netflix declined to comment when we reached out about Joseph Quinn’s involvement in Season 5 earlier this year.
To date, the only people who have been ruled out from returning for Stranger Things season 5 are Catherine Curtin, who plays Dustin’s Mom, and Eduardo Franco, who plays Argyle, who stated in early 2024 that he had not received a phone call to return.
What’s your thinking – will we see Joseph Quinn as Eddie in season 5? Sound off!
