Kakegurui is a Netflix Original anime based on the manga of the same name. Upon release, the anime became one of the most popular for subscribers on Netflix. With it’s over the top facial animations and ecchi tone not to mention its comedy gold you can see why fans love it so much.

In the private academy of Hykakkaou, it isn’t your athletic ability or your academic skills that get you to the top of the school. It’s your skill to read your opponent and to destroy them in a game of Poker or Black Jack. When newcomer Yumeko Jabami arrives at the school she shakes the very foundations of it to its core after as she teaches the students what it means to be a real gambler.

Season 1 Recap: Kakegurui

Yumeko joined the prestigious Hyakkaou academy and found her place in the world. A gambling addict Yumeko’s start to her tenure at the school was rocky and almost immediately was made a pet by Yuriko’s cheating in her roulette game. Yumeko’s time as a pet was incredibly short as she destroyed any would-be challengers. Victims to her addiction were school council president treasury Kaede Manyuda, head of the Beautification committee Midari Ikishima and even the school president herself Kirari Momobami.

Manga Coverage: Kakegurui Season 2

There are significant differences between that of the Manga and the Anime. More specifically the events of the anime finale do not transpire in the Manga and the finale was written specifically for the purpose of the anime. All the events leading up to the finale of the anime play out as the manga does.

Roughly 27 chapters out of the current 61 manga chapters have been covered in the anime. Season 2 appears to begin around the 33rd/34th Chapter as the new story arc begins. There is a gambling game that takes place between chapters 28 and 33 but we are expecting this game to take place later on in season 2.

For anyone watching the anime, this won’t make a difference, but the manga readers will certainly notice that the anime will do things out of order to the manga. The serialization is still ongoing and we can expect the second season to cover of least 25 more chapters from the manga.

Live Action Adaption: Is it on Netflix?

The live-action adaptation of the anime is on Netflix. Available worldwide the series is even available in Japan. Sadly the adaptation like most do not live up to the anime that made the series popular. The second season of the live-action adaptation is set for release this year but it is unknown if it will be arriving on Netflix.

Netflix Release Date: Kakegurui Season 2

Fans online have already expressed their displeasure that Netflix is yet to release any episodes of season 2. This is because the season airs in Japan prior to a Netflix release. Popular titles The Seven Deadly Sins and Baki also follow this format.

So fans of Kakegurui will be more than happy to hear that season 2 has exceeded our expectations of a September release date and will arrive on Thursday, 13th of June!
