Money Heist wrapped up with its final instalment five years ago in 2021 but will continue in some form beyond the newest season of the spin-off.

It’s time to dust off those Dalí masks and warm up your vocal cords for another round of “Bella Ciao.” Netflix has officially confirmed that the Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) universe is far from over.

In true Money Heist fashion, Netflix didn’t just drop a quiet press release to announce the news. Instead, they pulled off a massive, eye-catching stunt in Seville, Spain, on Saturday, May 9th, to let the world know that the franchise is still very much alive.

Thousands of spectators gathered along the banks of the Guadalquivir River to witness a boat packed with people dressed in the iconic red jumpsuits and Dalí masks sailing down the river. With the franchise’s anthem, “Bella Ciao,” blasting through the air, Netflix confirmed to the roaring crowd that the stories of La Casa de Papel will not end with the upcoming release of Berlin Season 2.

A new trailer just dropped announcing the continuation, which has the following description (translated to English):

“Some stories begin with a perfect heist. And this one changed everything. From the first robbery for cash to the most artistic heist of the century, including the assault that put tons of gold from the Bank of Spain at risk, the world of ‘Money Heist’ has never stopped growing, evolving, and surprising. But if one thing is clear… it’s that the revolution NEVER ends. From now on, this is the central hub for everything related to the ‘Money Heist’ universe. If you want to be part of the next plan and not miss a single move by the gang, this is the place to be. The ‘Money Heist’ universe continues on Netflix.”

The announcement comes perfectly timed, just days before the highly anticipated return of Pedro Alonso’s beloved jewel thief, which had its world premiere in recent days.

Berlin S2 Premiere

As we’ve previously covered, the second installment of the spin-off, officially titled Berlín y la dama del armiño (Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine), is set to premiere globally on Netflix this coming Friday, May 15th, 2026.

While Netflix hasn’t confirmed exactly what the next chapter of the Money Heist universe will be—whether it’s a third season of Berlin, another character spin-off, or a brand-new heist altogether (aka Money Heist season 6/part 6), or another international spin-off (or some combination of all of the above)—the Seville event makes it crystal clear that the Professor’s world still has plenty of tricks up its sleeve.

Given the trailer above ends with one of the gold bars being dug up, it would suggest a direct continuation but we’ll see what Alex Pina and his team are cooking up.

Why Netflix is Doubling Down on Money Heist

If you’re wondering why Netflix is so eager to keep the Money Heist train rolling, you only need to look at the streamer’s all-time viewership data. The franchise has remained one of the most unstoppable juggernauts in Netflix history since it made the jump from a local broadcaster in Spain to Netflix globally. It’s led to a long overall deal between Alex Pina and Netflix (which has resulted in some other middling hits and other shows likes Billionaires Bunker which was cut short after a single season), and Money Heist has also gotten a video game adaptation on Netflix plus an international spin-off, Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, which ran for a single season spread over two parts.

Here is a quick look at the staggering numbers Netflix shared during the Seville event:

  • All-Time Dominance: Three seasons of the original Money Heist series currently hold the #4, #6, and #7 spots on Netflix’s all-time Top 10 list for Non-English Series.
  • Continued Viewership: The Netflix Engagement Reports, covering viewership from 2023 through the end of 2025, show the main series picked up 1.3B hours watched, equating to 160M views.
  • A Massive Spin-off: During its premiere week, the first season of Berlin was the most-watched series globally, hitting the Top 10 in a whopping 91 countries.
  • Staying Power: Berlin Season 1 stayed in the Non-English Global Top 10 for 7 consecutive weeks, racking up 348 million hours viewed and a massive 53 million total views.

We’ll be keeping a very close eye on Netflix Spain’s social accounts and keeping our ears to the ground for any clues about what the next Money Heist project will be.
