Connected Wont Return For Season 2 At Netflix

Another Netflix docu-series that’s been sitting as pending has now been confirmed not to be returning. The science-based docu-series Connected: The Hidden Science of Everything hosted by Latif Nasser won’t be returning for a second season.

Only five episodes of the first season were produced in total, covering surveillance, dust, digits, clouds, nukes, and, best of all, poo. Nasser is a respected Canadian-American researcher and presenter who managed to convey excellently, using a bit of comedy, how science’s work impacts ordinary people’s lives.

The show was a hit with those who did check it out when it launched in August of 2020, but since that initial release, it has hit a 7.5/10 on IMDb, albeit on only 1.5k reviews.

Sadly, it looks like it’s one-and-done for the documentary series.

Latif was gracious enough to talk to me over DM on X (previously Twitter) over the past few years and told me there weren’t then any plans for an additional season but was hopeful.

More recently, in response to a few fans, Nasser confirmed throughout 2023 that there were no plans for a second season, with Netflix effectively canceling the show. In March 2023, Nasser responded to one fan:

“Sadly, no season 2 in the works. Working on some other TV stuff but all still in development phase, sadly.”

Nasser replied to another fan in August 2023, echoing the same thing, saying:

“I wanted to make season two and had many ideas but alas, Netflix didn’t want to. Have some new TV ideas in the works, but in the meantime check out @RadioLab”

RadioLab is as close to a season 2 of Connect on Netflix as you can get

In that last Tweet, Nasser referred to Radio Lab, a website and podcast he hosts alongside Lulu Miller. Still active to this day, they produce podcasts on all manner of subjects, including mathematics, computer science, or, as its pertinent to Connected, science, covering biology, chemistry, and physics. No stone is left unturned.

This is one of several shows we’ve been reporting on throughout January 2024 that were quietly canceled with acknowledgment over the past couple of years. Earlier this week, we reported that Tribes of Europa wouldn’t return for a season 2 and Oddballs had been quietly canceled and won’t return for a season 3.
