The Pogues are bringing it on home one final time. Netflix has officially announced that the fifth and final season of Outer Banks will premiere globally on August 20th, 2026. Alongside the release date, we’ve got our very first look at the emotional, action-packed final chapter.

Update: 11:12AM ET
In addition to the below, Netflix has confirmed seasons 1-4 will get a vinyl release.

“Dropping just as summer fades and leaving fans chasing the sun-drenched nostalgia of the OBX, the vinyl collection is available for pre-order starting today.

The 25-track Vinyl soundtrack collection is produced by award-winning composer and producer Fill Eisler and features Sides A through D — capturing the ultimate sounds of summer and including fan-favorite scores like the “Outer Banks Main Theme”, “Pogue’s Theme”, “Endless Summer”, “Pogue’s Sunset” and many more.”

It’s been a long road for our favorite treasure hunters. As we reported earlier this year, the final season faced some initial production pushbacks before getting fully underway. More recently, we tracked the crew as filming moved internationally to Croatia as production neared completion—and looking at these brand-new first-look images, that European excursion is going to play a massive role in the series finale.

Here is everything Netflix has revealed today about Outer Banks Season 5.

What to Expect from Outer Banks Season 5

If you thought the hunt for El Dorado or Blackbeard’s gold was intense, the stakes have literally never been higher. Netflix has dropped a new official synopsis for the final season, and it confirms our worst fears following the events in Morocco:

“Season 5 finds the Pogues at their absolute breaking point following the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco. Stranded far from home and mourning the heart of their crew, they’ve lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats. With Chandler Groff still at large, Dalia and the Corsairs closing in, and the Kooks ensuring the Pogues have no home to return to, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo must rely on their scrappy instincts—and an uneasy alliance with Rafe—to keep from falling apart for good. Their mission is now a desperate race to reclaim their future and finally win the freedom they’ve been chasing since the beginning. It’s the Pogues against the world as they seek to avenge their best friend and bring it on home…one final time.”

The confirmation of JJ’s death is a massive gut punch, setting the stage for a dark, revenge-fueled final season. Noticeably, Rudy Pankow is absent from the official Season 5 cast list. However, an “uneasy alliance” with Drew Starkey’s Rafe Cameron is sure to throw a massive wrench into the group’s dynamic as they try to survive.

First Look Images: The Pogues Against the World

Netflix has dropped an explosive batch of first-look images, giving us a taste of the danger awaiting the crew with the snaps ranging across multiple episodes including a couple from the eighth episode.

Action is clearly at the forefront, highlighted by a badass shot of Cleo (Carlacia Grant) walking away from a massive fiery vehicle explosion.

The international setting we tracked during filming is on full display. We see John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), Cleo, and Rafe navigating the cobblestone streets of Europe, looking incredibly distressed as Cleo checks a phone.

Another striking image shows the group—including Rafe—locked away together in a dingy, stone-walled prison cell, proving that this uneasy alliance might literally be forced upon them. We also see the crew with their hands raised in surrender in a separate outdoor standoff.

It’s not all doom and gloom, though. The classic Pogue spirit lives on with a sweet shot of John B and Sarah sharing a loving smile in front of the Twinkie, and we see Pope and Kiara (Madison Bailey) teaming up with flashlights to explore a dark, creepy cellar. Kiara is also seen scaling some rusty scaffolding on the side of an old stone building—standard Pogue behavior!

Meanwhile, Rafe Cameron gets a solo shot looking sharp in a polo shirt, standing in front of a white Mercedes. Whether he’s back to his old Kook ways or plotting to help the Pogues remains to be seen.
