ABC seems to be repositioning itself and its content in 2018 and 2019 meaning that we’ll see only three titles from the network drop on Netflix in 2019 at the very least. Here’s a look at why ABC is choosing to keep its content away from Netflix in 2019 and the full list of titles that are coming and when we expect them to arrive.
Be warned that this list will seem on the small side. ABC titles that come to Netflix are typically on what’s called legacy contracts. This means that so long as the show is being produced, new seasons come to Netflix. All new shows ABC produces typically goes onto Hulu.
Last year, three additional series were on this list but they’ve since concluded. These include Once Upon a Time, Quantico and Scandal.
ABC is also producing two shows exclusively for Netflix in 2019 but may potentially the last two on the service. Jessica Jones and The Punisher are both scheduled to get their third and second season respectively.
Here’s a quick guide to a few of the new/returning ABC shows that won’t be on Netflix and the majority can be found on Hulu (which Disney part-owns)
– The Rookie
– The Good Doctor
– Modern Family
– A Million Little Things
– The Connors
– The Goldbergs
– Single Parents
– American Housewife
– Shark Tank
– Splitting Up Together
– Fresh off the Boat
– General Hospital
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (Season 6)
Expected Netflix Release: TBA
Since 2013, Netflix has always managed to pick up new seasons the following summer. Sadly, season 6 of the show has been delayed from its usual fall release to July 2019.
That means its Netflix release date will be a lot later than usual and may not even come until 2020 but given it’s air date.
Grey’s Anatomy (Season 15)
Expected Netflix Release: May – July 2019
The longest running ABC show on Netflix continues to get new seasons. The medical drama is a fan-favorite and gets updated on Netflix each Summer. Hulu does carry the latest season but only on a catch-up basis. The old seasons remains exclusively on Netflix and look to continue that way into 2019.
How to Get Away with Murder (Season 5)
Expected Netflix Release: April 2019
How to Get Away with Murder continues to be on the gems in the ABC lineup. Viola Davis continues to play her role as Annalise Keating, a university professor teaching kids about muders.
Also for those of you who love this show, you’ll want to stick with Netflix as the creator Shonda Rhimes (who also created Grey’s Anatomy) is going to be producing Netflix shows from next year onwards.
Dates and titles are subject to change.
