Ricky Gervais is going to remain an important contributor over the next few years. With an exclusive first look deal and multiple projects already on the platform, Netflix is the platform of choice for Gervais fans. Here’s what you can expect from him over the next year or so on Netflix.

You can already find quite a few pieces of Ricky’s work in the Netflix Original lineup. He’s worked on two Netflix co-productions/exclusive distribution deals with one being Derek and the other David Brent: Life on the Road. One Netflix Original movie called Special Correspondents and his first Netflix Original stand-up, Humanity.

Here’s what Gervais is currently working on for Netflix right now.

Supernature

Type: Stand-up Special
Release Date: 2019/2020

Coming a year or two after his first debut stand-up special for Netflix is Supernature. The stand-up show will be touring the world throughout 2019 and early 2020 but it’s not been confirmed which show is being taped and subsequently released on Netflix.

A work-in-progress of the show began in May 2019.

Given the name of the show and Ricky’s outspoken love for all things nature, we can take a pretty good guess at what the new stand-up will cover.

The Willoughbys

Type: Animated movie
Release Date:
Spring 2020
Role: Starring role, producer

This French animated title (but spoken in English) is coming to Netflix in Spring 2020. Hoping to get Netflix on par with the likes of Disney, they’ve been pushing into animated movies (or at least trying) for several years.

Ricky Gervais as well as voicing the character of “the cat”, he also serves as one of the executive producers of the movie.

Voicing characters alongside Ricky Gervais are Maya Rudolph, Terry Crews, Martin Short, and Jane Krakowski.

After Life (Season 2)

Type: TV Comedy Series
Release date:
2020
Role:
Creator, Lead Actor

Ricky Gervais has worked on Derek before for Netflix but it was never quite a full Netflix Original. That changed with After Life with Netflix solely distributing the show. It was an instant hit despite having limited press fanfare leading up to the release.

The series is set to continue for season 2 with all of the characters returning and the main character looking like he’s turned over a new leaf by the conclusion of season 1.

After Life will continue to be shorter than most Originals clocking in once again at six episodes.

Not a week goes by where Ricky doesn’t tweet about the fanfare he gets from people on social media.

We should mention that the next season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee will guest star Ricky Gervais which is due out on Netflix exclusively on July 19th, 2019.

Another footnote is that a Flannimals movie is in development at Illumination Studios. Netflix US currently has an output deal with that studio so should come to Netflix eventually.
