The dystopian world of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror is gearing up for its next chapter, and we’ve got our very first look at who will be suffering through the tech-induced existential dread this time around.
Following the massive success of Season 7, we previously reported that Black Mirror was officially renewed for Season 8 at Netflix. With the cameras officially rolling and production now well underway in the UK, we’ve obtained exclusive set photos that confirm our first major casting for the upcoming season.
Rising British star Emma Laird will feature in an upcoming episode of Season 8!

If Laird looks familiar to you, she should. She broke out in a big way starring alongside Jeremy Renner as Iris in Paramount+’s Mayor of Kingstown, and has recently graced the screen in Kenneth Branagh’s A Haunting in Venice and the Tom Holland-led Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room. In the exclusive behind-the-scenes snaps obtained by What’s on Netflix, Laird can be seen filming on location in London. Rocking a light blue vintage-style Adidas track jacket, a lace-trimmed plaid skirt, and loafers, she looks to be waiting near a bus stop that features an ad for a fictional brand of “Ditta Debonaire” crisps (Seared Wagyu Beef & Dijon Mustard flavor, naturally).
But because this is Black Mirror, the set photos wouldn’t be complete without a generous helping of Charlie Brooker’s signature Easter eggs.
If you look closely at the background in one of our images (specifically the plywood boarding behind the film crew), you can spot some massive nods to the Black Mirror shared universe. Pinned to the wall are underground gig/club posters advertising the “Striking Vipers 24th birthday” alongside other recognizable keywords like “National Anthem,” “Arkangel,” “araknoiax” (from Bandersnatch), and “recaller” (a nod to Crocodile). It seems the timeline of this episode is deeply embedded in the established lore of the show.
What about the rest of the cast?
We know what you’re thinking: Black Mirror is famous for its massive, star-studded ensembles, so who else is joining Emma Laird this season?
Well, we actually have a few other major names currently sitting on our radar. However, at the request of Netflix—and because we want to preserve the secrecy and surprise that makes a new season of Black Mirror so special—we are holding off on announcing the rest of the roster for now. As always, though, you can expect a mix of high profile names plus young and up-and-comers though. Other details on season 8, such as episode count, are under wraps.
