Black Mirror fans rejoice! Netflix has officially confirmed that the show’s eighth season is filming in the United Kingdom.

Netflix announced back in January that the award-winning, mind-bending sci-fi anthology Black Mirror was returning for an eighth season, with creator Charlie Brooker returning to pen the new instalments. (If you remember our earlier renewal news, at the time Netflix weren’t overly keen on officially calling it a “Season 8,” but note that it’s definitely being classified as that now!)

“Black Mirror will return, and hopefully it’ll be more Black Mirror than ever,” creator Charlie Brooker said upon the renewal.

Currently, we know very little about what’s in store for Black Mirror Season 8: there’s no official episode count, no casting announcements (that are public anyway!), or plot details. However, after months of silence, we finally have one major step in its progress: Black Mirror Season 8 is officially filming in the United Kingdom. That comes as no surprise as we did report that a summer start date was on the cards in the UK earlier this year.

The last season of Black Mirror dropped back in April, meaning the turnaround for this next installment is moving at a surprisingly brisk pace for a series that once took a grueling four-year hiatus between seasons.

Crews Spotted on Location in England

Thanks to eagle-eyed locals and on-set whispers, we now have our first look at where the production company, Broke and Bones, has set up shop.

Filming for the new season of #BlackMirror is currently underway at Hope Cove House in the picturesque coastal village of Hope Cove, England. For the purposes of filming, the real-world hotel has received a complete makeover and has been renamed the Sandcastle Hotel for the show.

Visitors to the coastal town also spotted series creator and writer Charlie Brooker on location! Although it’s always thrilling to see the mastermind of the anthology on set overseeing the madness, we don’t currently think he’s directing this particular episode.

What will Black Mirror Season 8 be about?

Because it’s an anthology series, predicting the plot of an upcoming Black Mirror season is practically impossible until Netflix decides to drop a teaser trailer.

Will the “Sandcastle Hotel” be a quaint holiday spot harboring a dark technological secret, a simulated reality for vacationers, or something far more sinister? For now, your guess is as good as ours.

Rest assured, as soon as we hear about casting news, episode titles, or release dates, we’ll be the first to let you know.

Series creator Charlie Brooker continues to showrun and executive produce alongside Annabel Jones — the two of whom co-founded Broke and Bones, the Netflix-backed indie behind Black Mirror. With production now underway, we also have our first confirmed batch of behind-the-scenes crew details for the upcoming season:

  • Creator: Charlie Brooker
  • Writers: Charlie Brooker, Bisha K. Ali
  • Executive Producers: Charlie Brooker, Jessica Rhoades, Annabel Jones, Bisha K. Ali, Louise Sutton
  • Co-Executive Producer: Mark Kinsella
