The cast of Netflix’s Extraction spin-off, Extraction: Taigo, continues to expand, as we’ve learned that Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power star Maxim Baldry has been cast in the upcoming Korean film, which Netflix unveiled overnight. Here’s everything we know so far.

Watched by millions of subscribers across the globe, Extraction is one of Netflix’s most successful action film franchises. Sam Hargrave, the former stunt coordinator of several Marvel films and frequent collaborator with the Russo Brothers, directed the first two installments. The property is expanding on Netflix, with not only a third film eying a summer 2026 shoot, but also a series currently in production and a Korean movie that’s been long rumored and officially confirmed by Netflix.

Long gestating, we last updated our coverage of the upcoming Korean movie back in October, when Blackpink star Lisa was reported to be the latest addition to the cast. She joined Train to Busan star Ma Dong Seok, who has been confirmed for the cast and is also writing the screenplay for the project. Lee Jin-uk, who starred as No. 246, aka Park Gyeong Seok, in Squid Game, plays a leading role.

Netflix itself officially confirmed the project yesterday, posting a number of items overnight to select trades, on social media, and its own TUDUM site, with the logline for the movie being, “A former child soldier turned mercenary embarks on a revenge mission through Korea’s underworld after a mission gone wrong.”

In a statement, Angela Russo-Otstot, a producer on the movie and chief creative officier of AGBO, one of the production companies behind the new movie, said, “We’re thrilled to explore the world of Extraction through a South Korean lens, teaming up with legendary action star Don Lee and visionary director Lee Sang-yong, whose dynamic choreography exemplifies the world-class craft of Korean cinema.”

Lee Sang-yong is directing the feature film with Cha Woo-jin behind the script, with Big Punch Pictures and TGIM producing alongside AGBO and Nova Film Inc., and B&C Group serving as co-producers.

Confirming that the new movie will indeed be a true global affair, we’ve recently learned that Maxim Baldry has been cast as “Olek” in Extraction: Taigo. The actor previously played Isildur in Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and has starred in projects such as Strike BackDoctor WhoLast Christmas, Years & Years, and Mr. Bean’s Holiday.
