It’s been a massive couple of weeks for Arcane fans, and today, we got a new glimpse of the forthcoming second season courtesy of a new minute-and-a-half-long teaser trailer and the bombshell news that season 2 will conclude Arcane on Netflix with it set to be the final chapter.

In case you missed it last week, Netflix revealed some new clips and stills for the upcoming highly anticipated second season of Arcane at its Next on Netflix: Animation presentation.

Based on the League of Legends IP, Arcane burst onto the scene in late 2021 and became one of Netflix’s biggest animated series. It was featured in the Netflix Top 10s for six weeks, picking up over 143.91 million hours. The Netflix Engagement Reports for 2023 revealed the show picked up 29.6M hours watched last year, equating to 4.7M views.

The info drop today didn’t include any new details regarding a release date other than the November 2024 window we’ve had for quite some time. We don’t know if the release schedule will mimic the first by dropping over several weeks or be a more Netflix-traditional binge drop.

Netflix provides an updated logline for the new season, saying:

“In this final chapter, Jinx’s attack on the Council sets the stage for a dire escalation of the conflict between Piltover and Zaun.”

In the new teaser, we get to see the aftermath of the destruction of the Piltover council at the hands of Jinx, which has ended all hope of peace between Piltover and Zaun. Upended by the chaos, what’s left of the Piltover leadership springs into action to take the fight directly to Zaun, where the tragic anarchist Jinx has become the face of rebellion. In the vein hope of restoring the fractured peace between the two cities, Vi does the unthinkable and joins the Enforcers, Piltover’s police force that she spent her adolescence fighting against, to confront and take down her sister Jinx.

In addition to the new trailer, Netflix released four new stills for the upcoming season. We got a new look at Reed Shannon as Ekko, Ellen Thomas as Ambessa, and Katie Leung as Caitlyn, plus the image at the head of this article depicting Ella Purnell as Jinx going head-to-head with Hailee Steinfeld as Vi.

Although we got confirmation today that Arcane will conclude on Netflix with its second season, that doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the end. We’ve heard rumblings that the universe is ripe for spin-offs.

“Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche,” echoed Christian Linke during a League Dev Update that went live earlier today. “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”

In the dev update, they state, “The team’s currently working on their next projects—across television and film—which are still very early in development and hope to share more by the end of the year.”

The news comes as Arcane is one of several animated titles Netflix is showcasing at the Annecy Film Festival over the next few days. Tomorrow, there’ll be a Making Of session with showrunner Christian Linke, scriptwriter Amanda Overton, senior concept artist Arnaud Baudry, director Bart Maunoury, and producer Christine Ponzevera.

You may have also seen that yesterday, Arcane is one of the rare Netflix Originals that will get a physical release on 4K and Blu-Ray. That’s because GKIDS Films acquired the distribution rights.

Are you looking forward to Arcane’s second and final season on Netflix? Let us know in the comments.
