Stranger Things New Teaser Drops At Emmys

Over the past few weeks, several Stranger Things tracker accounts have been closely monitoring the Stranger Things Instagram account, which has been abuzz with activity, leading some to anticipate that a teaser trailer was imminent. During the Emmys, Netflix dropped a new teaser, but it’s mostly a recut of older clips pulled from the trailer that dropped on July 16th.

As mentioned, the teaser is mostly clips from the season 5 trailer that dropped a couple of months ago, and even older clips from season 1 demonstrating the journey our heroes have been on and where we’re heading. The Duffers have previously confirmed the majority of clips from the trailer that dropped in July were from Volume 1.

It’s certainly light on dialogue, with the only things spoken being, “This thing, it ties us together forever”, “Let’s end this kid,” and Vecna’s now iconic “Found you.”

Many fans were disappointed in the lack of new footage, but the goal of the teaser was to tease the CBS audience, who may not have seen the main trailer.

Another bone of contention is with the trailer opening with a TV-MA rating. Stranger Things has been TV-14 since the very first season, so this would mark a change. That said, we’ve covered this change of age rating before, with Netflix having updated the age rating for the show numerous times over the years, and it resurfaced again last November. Checking again, the series remains listed as TV-14 across all seasons within the Netflix interface. Some have speculated that season 5 may be upped to TV-MA, given we know this is going to be the darkest season yet, and the stamp in the top left corner as the teaser begins certainly adds fuel to that fire.

The release date has also been a little confusing, given that the new teaser mentions Thanksgiving (November 27th) as the release date for Volume 1, when it’s actually November 26th at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET when the new episodes drop. Of course, for those in Europe or further East, you will have to tune in in the early hours of the morning on the 27th.

Also, this weekend, in other Stranger Things news, the New York Mets held a special Stranger Things event on September 12th, and Gaten Matarazzo was in attendance to throw the first pitch.

Beyond this, the last major update came back on August 31st with Ross Duffer posting on Instagram that post-production on episodes three and four (which concludes volume 1) had come to an end and updated his teases for each episode. As a reminder for all four episodes, the teasers have been:

[Chapter 1] “The Crawl” is our favorite, most eventful first episode since Season 1.

[Chapter 2] “The Vanishing of…” (yeah yeah you think you know who blah blah) has by far the craziest cold open we’ve ever done. One of the sequences we’re most proud of this season.”

[Chapter 3] “The Turnbow Trap” is the most classic Stranger Things-y episode of the season. It’s got all our favorite things. Directed by one of our idols Frank Darabont (Shawshank! Green Mile! Walking Dead!) — who literally came out of retirement for this. He crushed it, obviously.

[Chapter 4] “Sorcerer” is MASSIVE — as big as any finale we’ve ever done, and the most logistically insane shoot of our lives. We’re still recovering.”

There’ll be lots more Stranger Things first looks and trailers in the weeks to come ahead of Volume 1 dropping. Stay tuned to What’s on Netflix for the latest updates, and follow top tracking social media accounts like Stranger Things Spoilers and Hawkins Happenings for the latest newsWe’d also recommend adding the official Instagram account and joining their community, as their direct messages have been a good way of getting early warnings of new content drops.
