Netflix has just lifted the lid on an absolutely colossal slate of new UK commissions at the Edinburgh TV Festival (following Monday’s reveals of various renewals), and if you’re a fan of British drama, comedy, or reality, you’re going to want to sit down for this.
Promising to “swing for exceptional,” Anne Mensah, Netflix’s VP of UK Content, laid out a bold vision for the streamer’s UK output through 2026 and 2027. From massive Hollywood A-listers leading gritty new dramas to the highly anticipated expansion of the Top Boy universe, Netflix has a lot in store.

The Heavyweight Dramas
The Unheard

Arguably the biggest surprise of the festival, Kate Winslet (Mare of Easttown) and Maxine Peake (Say Nothing) are teaming up for The Unheard, a five-episode limited series from acclaimed writer Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials).
- The Plot: The series follows two sisters who go on the run after an act of vengeance goes disastrously wrong, forcing them to question what pushed them to this reckless act in the first place.
- Production: Directed by Mounia Akl and produced by Warp Films, Plan B, and Matriarch Productions. Filming is set to kick off in 2027.
How To Kill Your Family

Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) is returning to Netflix! She will star alongside Clive Owen, Orlando Norman, and David Shields in this eight-episode adaptation of Bella Mackie’s bestselling novel.
- The Plot: Taylor-Joy plays Grace Bernard, the rejected, illegitimate daughter of a ruthless billionaire (Owen). When her mother dies, Grace channels her anger into systematically—and creatively—killing off her estranged extended family to secure her revenge and a hefty inheritance.
- Production: Created and written by Emma Moran (Extraordinary), with Sid Gentle Films (Killing Eve) producing. Filming begins this Autumn (October we hear).
Untitled Dahl Stories for Adults
Netflix is diving back into the Roald Dahl library, but this time, it’s strictly for the grown-ups. Danny Brocklehurst (Fool Me Once, Brassic) is weaving together Dahl’s iconic, twisted short stories for a new 6-part series.
- The Cast: The ensemble is jaw-dropping. Naomi Scott, Imelda Staunton, Nicola Coughlan, Dominic West, Toby Jones, Josh Finan, Carmen Ejogo, Christine Tremarco, Michael Socha, and Clarke Peters are all on board.
- The Plot: A young couple marooned in a faded seaside town must navigate conmen, adulterers, and murderous mothers to escape their sealed fate.
- Production: Filming has already started this month in Manchester and the North West of England!

Expanding the Top Boy Universe
Did you really think we were done with Summerhouse? Netflix officially announced not one, but two spin-offs from the BAFTA-winning Top Boy universe.
Jonny Boy
Barry Keoghan (Saltburn, The Banshees of Inisherin) is reprising his scene-stealing role as Jonny McGee for a 5-episode prequel series.
- The Details: Written and created by original Top Boy mastermind Ronan Bennett, the series will explore Jonny’s origin story. It will be directed by Ali Abbasi and produced by Cowboy Films alongside Keoghan’s own WolfCub Productions. Filming starts in 2027.

Jaq (Working Title)
Jasmine Jobson is returning to her BAFTA-winning role! A new 6-episode series will center entirely on Jaq.
- The Details: Created and written by Ryan Calais Cameron, the series will continue the gritty legacy of Ronan Bennett’s world. Like Jonny Boy, this will also go before cameras in 2027.
A New Wave of Comedy
If you need a laugh after all that drama and crime, Netflix has tapped some of the absolute best comedic minds in the UK.
Jig
Lisa McGee, the genius creator behind Derry Girls, is bringing a brand new six-part mockumentary to Netflix.
- The Plot: Set in the high-stakes, cutthroat world of competitive Irish dancing, the series follows best friends Cara and Fletcher from a struggling Derry dance school as they take on an unbeatable, heavily sponsored rival team from Florida on their way to the World Championships.
- Production: Filming begins in Northern Ireland in 2027.
Marbles
Robert Popper (Friday Night Dinner) returns with a 6-episode multi-generational family comedy.
- The Cast: Robert Webb, Timothy Spall, Alexandra Roach, Denise Welch, and Loo Brealey.
- The Plot: A laugh-out-loud look at a middle-aged couple squeezed from both ends of life—trying to raise ridiculously lively young boys while caring for difficult aging parents (including trying to get a 75-year-old father to move out). Filming starts Autumn 2026.
Unscripted & Live Events: Darts and The Sidemen
Netflix is continuing to push hard into live and unscripted formats, capitalising on massive UK cultural phenomena.
Beat Luke Littler (Live Event)
Mark your calendars for October 30, 2026. Netflix is partnering with the PDC for a high-stakes live darts special. Gary Lineker will host, with Richard Osman providing expert analysis.
- The Format: 20 ambitious amateurs will step up to the oche. The rules? One night, one chance, and one perfect leg of 501. If they can defeat darts prodigy Luke Littler, they win £501,000.
Outside
Following the smash-hit success of Inside, The Sidemen are bringing their newest reality spin-off to Netflix.
- The Format: Moving beyond four walls, a new group of content creators (including Chloe Veitch, Sara Saffari, Matt Morsia, and more) are thrown into the forest to battle for a £1 million prize. Every comfort they buy eats into the prize pot. Filming on the 8-episode season has already wrapped.
