As the new Spanish sexy and twisty show hits Netflix globally, the eighth episode has a lot of loose ends to solve, the biggest of which is the fate of Celia. As the finale packs a punch, we give you the play-by-play of the finale and potential for a follow-up.
Oasis Season 1 Finale Recap
We open as the shock ending of episode 7 reveals the identity of Celia’s abductor and co-conspirator in a drug ring operating on the beach near the Oasis: Detective Sandra Ortega (Verónica Sánchez). Dani and Helena tracked down a cigarette butt with a dragon icon, which was established to belong to the kidnapper. Since Ginès was taken into custody, they go to the room that was provided to the inspectors, and discover that Ortega is gone. A call to the police station reveals they have no idea of her surroundings, and Dani quickly deduces that Ortega is the one that abducted Celia. They present that theory to a doubtful Luis, who is also packing his desk. In one of the cardboard boxes, Dani notices a walkie-talkie similar to the one they found earlier, and he grows suspicious. When Dani offers his help, Luis shuts him down and says that finding Celia is just a matter of hours, adding that he is leaving management of the Oasis. As he goes into the elevator, the camera zooms in on a necklace with a ring on it.

We then flash back to discover his involvement in the abduction of Celia on that fateful night. Having found that necklace in the abandoned bedroom in the refurbished area, she then confronts her father and presses him to know if he has anything to do with the short disappearance of Helena (Ana Garcés). As she threatens to call the police, Luis then attempts to come clean and brings her back to the unused room. He explains that, because the work done to revamp the hotel has been a financial disaster, he had no choice but to turn to drug trafficking, with bags of drugs hidden in vases. He reveals that Jaén helps ship the drugs off to the beach, but was surprised by Helena and knocked out; then they washed her to erase evidence. On their way back, they are surprised by Ortega, as a visibly upset Celia tries to get away; she is then chased by Ortega, knocked unconscious, then dragged to the heating room and sequestered. There, we see her knocking over one of the stored vases while trying to free herself, a piece of which was retrieved by Dani when he was locked there.
Helena and Dani try to intercept Luis, and follow him on a quad. As it turns out, he has a meeting with Ortega in an effort to exchange the life of Celia for money in a suitcase; but Ortega has other plans. She hits Luis with a gun, then has Celia enter the back of his truck and tries to push their car over a cliff, in order to clear her tracks and confuse investigators even more. But Helena and Dani arrive on the scene, and manage to temporarily disarm Ortega, get Celia and get away.

Elsewhere, Sofia (Ada Molina) and Maca (Berta Castañé) come to an understanding and truce, and elaborate plans for the future. Leo (Amanda Palomino) has to follow up on her lie she told Jon (Blas Polidori): Maca had an affair with his father Felipe, while she was actually the one who had it. Maca refuses to play along and urges Leo to tell Jon; she then goes to Felipe, and also confesses she is not pregnant with his baby. Incensed, Felipe rages: “It’s better to feel guilt with dignity than to ruin the lives of all of those you care about just because you want to feel a little better.” Leo then tells him off, and goes to Jon, who is processing pictures he took of her. They forgive each other.
Laura (Laura Simon) and Oliver (Jan Buxaderas) elaborate a plan to access the safe of Laura’s grandmother and discover what she is hiding in order not to sell the business to the Fortes. Oliver obtains the code to the safe in her room, but is nearly caught when Laura’s grandmother goes back to her room in search of her pills. Eventually, Oliver discovers medical documents in her safe which reveal she intends to sell the business because she has cancer, so that Laura will inherit all of it after she passes. Oliver then chooses not to disclose that information to Laura, evasively declaring “she may have her own reasons to sell”. He then goes to Laura’s grandmother with the documents, with a deal: nix the sale to the Fortes in exchange for the return of the documents and also giving their blossoming relationship a shot. Laura’s grandmother agrees.

Back outside the resort, Ortega has found Helena, Dani and Celia; after a short fight, they are able to neutralize Ortega and Dani is seen hesitating to pull the trigger and shoot Ortega before being interrupted by the police arriving on the scene. In the end, Ortega is taken into custody, Dani and Helena are able to clear Jaén’s name, and the latter apologizes to Helena for not telling her the truth and getting her into this mess. It is then implied in dialogue that Helena, whose interest in Dani has grown over the adventure, will instead allow Dani and Celia’s relationship to resume where it was. The season ends with all three taking a dip in the pool, as Dani’s voiceover urges us to “go play” and reach for our goals even if you fail a thousand times.
Will Oasis be renewed for season 2?
As the series has just been released on Netflix, the preliminary viewership metrics are not in yet. As we have just seen, all the plots for season 1 seem resolved. But that does not mean that the creative teams did not think of a return to the luxurious resort, should the series prove a success. We asked executive producer of the show Gema R. Neira, and here is what she had to say:
We would love to [do more seasons]. We’ve created some characters that we think would have a lot to tell beyond this season, but we also know that a mystery story has to have a resolution for the viewer, so I think anyone who likes it won’t be disappointed.
