Magnolia Pictures’ Carolina Caroline, the romantic crime thriller starring Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner, will begin streaming on Netflix in the United States on November 6th, 2026.
The film is directed by Adam Carter Rehmeier, the filmmaker behind cult favorite Dinner in America (which also starred Gallner) and the coming-of-age comedy Snack Shack. Tom Dean wrote the screenplay.
What is Carolina Caroline about?
Weaving plays Caroline Daniels, a young woman desperate to escape her small Texas town. Her way out arrives in the form of Oliver, a smooth-talking con man played by Gallner. The pair embark on a romance-fueled crime spree across the American Southeast, with Caroline hoping to finally track down the estranged mother who abandoned her.
The R-rated film runs 1 hour and 47 minutes. It features a country-heavy soundtrack with tracks from Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton and Loretta Lynn, alongside an original score from Christopher Bear. Jean-Philippe Bernier handled cinematography, and the film was shot in Kentucky in the fall of 2024.
Who stars in Carolina Caroline?
Weaving leads the film as Caroline. It’s the latest in a busy 2026 for the actress, who also starred in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come and Over Your Dead Body this year. She’s best known for Ready or Not, Scream VI and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Kyle Gallner plays Oliver. Horror fans will know him from Strange Darling and Smile, and the film reunites him with Rehmeier following Dinner in America.
Rounding out the main cast are Emmy winner Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer), Jon Gries (Napoleon Dynamite, The White Lotus) and Tommy G. Kendrick.
Carolina Caroline’s road to Netflix
The film world-premiered in the Centerpiece program at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. Weeks later, Magnolia Pictures acquired North American rights. The film then opened the 2026 Florida Film Festival before hitting US theaters on June 5th, 2026. It arrived on digital storefronts just a few weeks later, on June 23rd. A Blu-ray from Magnolia Home Entertainment followed on August 25th.
From 2017, Magnolia Pictures titles went to Hulu first, then arrived on other streamers as the years ticked by. Over the past year, they seem to go to others like HBO Max and Prime Video, but our research doesn’t show a standing first-window deal.

What did critics think?
Critics have been far kinder than the box office. Carolina Caroline holds a 90% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes alongside a 79% audience score, making it one of the best-reviewed films of Weaving’s career.
Reviewers have repeatedly singled out the chemistry between Weaving and Gallner. Many compared the film to a Bonnie and Clyde-style outlaw romance, while praising Rehmeier for breathing fresh life into a familiar genre. Flickering Myth gave particular praise to Weaving’s performance in the film’s later stretches, though it was less taken with some of the film’s quirkier touches.
