Kento Nakajima’s second Netflix project, S&X, will land on Netflix globally on August 20, 2026! Nakajima plays the lead role of Ichito Shimotori in this live-action adaptation of Kisei Tada’s manga. Here’s everything we know about S&X on Netflix.

S&X is an upcoming Japanese Netflix Original series based on the manga of the same name by Kisei Tada. The story will be written by Ruriko Matushima, Takumi Baba, and Shogo Kusano, the latter of whom will also be directing.

Producing the series is Office Shirous, with Markiko Sto and Daisuke Sairo.

What is the plot of S&X

Netflix has provided a logline for the series:

“Ichito Shimotori is a sex therapist at Shimotori Clinic, and every day, he sees patients facing intimate issues they can’t talk about with anyone else. Ignoring the ridicule and prejudice he receives for his chosen profession, he treats each patient with utmost sincerity and respect. But little do the people around him know that he hides an anxiety of his own.”

Who are the cast members of S&X?

The first cast member announced for the series was Kento Nakajima, who plays the lead role, Ichito Shimotori. The actor is best known for starring in television shows such as Bad Boys JKazoku no utaand Silver Spoon, as well as the Netflix Original film Love Like the Falling Petals.

Nakajima shared his excitement to play Shimotori with Netflix:

“The way Shimotori pays close attention to the finest details of his patients’ emotions and gently empathizes with them felt very similar to my own process of making music. I felt ready for this challenge now, which led me to accept the role.”

The author of the manga, Kisei Tada, also expressed his excitement at seeing his character brought to life by Kento Nakajima:

“While writing the manga, I focused on the themes that ‘you don’t have to carry sexual concerns alone’ and ‘there are places where you can seek help.’ As a viewer myself, I am incredibly excited to see how Kento Nakajima will bring this complex character to life!”

Joining Nakajima in the cast are:

  • Yuko Araki as Yumi Ichinose – heroine who reunites with the protagonist and finds herself irresistibly drawn to him.
  • Ryota Miura as Nurse Yuta Saigawa – Despite his role, struggles to empathize with the daily emotional turmoil of his clients and keeps his workplace a secret from his lover.
  • Sako Fujima as Marin Natsume – Medical receptionist at the same clinic, a straight-talker with a personality that brings levity and supports the somewhat unreliable Shimatori; she has a same-sex partner
  • Aoi Nakamura as Hayate Suma -The main anchor on Yumi’s show, highly trusted by his superiors, he looks out for his junior colleague Yumi in various ways, though his affection for her shines through.
  • Rinka Kumatada as Miku Kono – Yumi’s promising junior anchor, who views Yumi—close to Hayate—as a rival and comes off sharp-tongued, but secretly harbors feelings for her.
  • Sayaka Yamaguchi as Shion Kase – Uttering advice to the protagonist from a mysteriously alluring room in a building, she appears seductive at first glance but is a bona fide gynecologist and medical doctor.
  • Yusuke Santamaria as Daisuke Kurusu – The protagonist’s mentor, with a breezy demeanor that endears him to the clinic staff; he knows the protagonist’s past.
  • Hiroyuki Sano as Kazuo Toyomoto – Department head at the medical school and a leading authority in surgery; he disapproves of Shimatori’s turn to “sex therapy” and frequently offers stern counsel.
