Happy Friday! Welcome along to your end-of-week recap of everything new that hit Netflix over the past five days and a look at what’s been trending in the Netflix top 10s over the past seven days.
Only one title is scheduled to drop on Netflix this weekend with that being the debut of the new Korean drama series Doctor Slump.
On the removals front this weekend, Hotel Transylvania 2 will soon be making its departure from Netflix US, as will two Netflix Originals early next week in the form of Close Enemies and Journey to Greenland.

Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017)

Our must-watch pick of today is the frankly career-defining performance for Vince Vaughn, in which he plays Bradley Thomas, a drug mule who has to kill a man in a security max prison to rescue his wife.
Brian Formo for Collider concluded in his review back in 2017, “The acts of violence that must be committed to be sent down multiple levels within the maximum-security prison are indeed gruesome but everything is grounded in the best performance of Vaughn’s lifetime.”

A few IFC Films hit Netflix this week, and at the top of our watch list is The Novice, which makes its Netflix debut.
The plot revolves around a first-year college student who identifies as queer and becomes a member of her university’s rowing team, embarking on an intense journey that challenges both her body and mind with a relentless drive to secure a spot in the elite varsity boat club.
Certified Fresh on RottenTomatoes, the feature was praised for being the debut feature for the writer/director, with many comparing it to the likes of Whiplash.
Badland Hunters (2024)

Netflix has had some good success with its bigger-budget Korean titles set in the sci-fi and action genre, and merging the two together today is Badland Hunters.
In our review of the movie, published this morning, Andrew Morgan only gave it a two out of five-star rating, concluding:
“Badland Hunters may give the Don Lee faithful & action film superfans some moments of joy, but the more discerning action fans who want a little more from its plot, direction, & performances will be left wanting.”
Just in case you needed a double whammy of Korean action this week, Netflix US also added the incredible zombie film Train to Busan.
